Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to get rid of the pacifier? My son is 17 mos old and has been addictied to that thing since he was 2 weeks old. I am trying to limit it to naps and bedtimes but sometimes there is nothing else that will satisfy him. Just wondering if we should go cold turkey or slowly wean??????? |

when my son was around that age i just started telling him no paci unless he was in bed or going to sleep. So i carried it around for naps in the stroller. Then when he was around 2 i told him if you lose this one there will be no more it will go to a baby somewhere that needs it since he was a big boy now. One day he dropped it and i stuck it in my pocket and when he asked for it i told him he must have lost it and its with a baby now and he just said ok and went to sleep lol. He wasn't a paci addict. My 13 month is though so i worry how i will wean him. Good luck! |

My son is only 5-months old so I haven't had to deal with that yet. However, I have a co-worker who has a 2-year old boy. For his second birthday, she told him that he had to give his pacifiers to the binky fairy. They tied his pacifiers to balloons and let them go. I thought it was a great idea and it worked for her. Good luck to you! |

Thanks ladies.
Monique I read that in one of my parenting magazines about the balloons. He loves balloons so I thought about trying that, maybe I will. He might not like balloons after that..haha But I will give it a shot. Thanks |

My son was a chewer and eventually he would chew through the pacifier and we would throw it away. I didn't buy any more pacifiers and eventually the pacifier was broken again and he threw it in the the trash. He actually said to us the second day "pacifier broken in the trash, Mommy said no new ones", he only asked for it a couple a days. He was just about 22 months when it happened. So, you could try the method of putting a hole in it. but you just stick to your guns they do get over it very quickly - Good Luck! |

I have posted this question a couple of places and so glad to hear that most babies get over it very quickly, thanks so much. I thought it might be something that goes on for weeks. |
