Making Friends.

Hi. I'm a 25 year old SAHM/housewife and I joined this group to try and make friends. I didn't think it would be so hard to make friends but I'm finding that there are not a lot of friendly people around this area. Any advice on what to do would be appreciated.

You could try finding a playgroup on meetup.com or through this site by typing in your zip code. Good Luck I hope you find something Smile

This site seems like it's for playgroups...I love cafe mom for making friends. You should give it a try.

Are you new to your area, Mandie?  I am a bit of a "gypsy" and know that it takes time to find good friends and support.  Since you have a little one in school - volunteer to serve somewhere, maybe the PTA.  Also, when we moved - I ordered "calling cards" with my name, e-mail address and phone number.  Seems kinds corny - BUT, whenever I ran into someone that I thought might turn into a friend, it was a great convenience to have in my purse!

Also, connect to your local church.  There are ALWAYS areas needing people to serve.  Give it time - the friends will come into your life.  And the "not so friendly" people - well, it's their loss!  It's not easy, but be the first to speak to others - and normally, you can get a conversation going.

Best,

Kenni Raye

Cafemom is great if you want to chat online, but if you want real people- I agree, try www.meetup.com or Momsclub or MOPS groups in your area (I preferred meetup)...  churches, storytime at libraries, bookstores (Barnes & Noble), go to parks near you, ChukE Cheese & you'll find other single moms.

I satrted a playgroup on meetup in Nov & now we have 172 mom's...  clearly there is a need!  Best of luck :)

I'm in the same situation. I live in Durham and I worked until my son was born in June. I had my "work friends" but since I no longer work I don't see them anymore and I'm not from this area so I don't know anyone. I'm interested in trying to meet up with other women in my situation. Smile
