My son is a little over a year now and ever since he was about a month old he seems to have no patience whatsoever. I know that kids throw some temper tantrums sometimes but my son gets hysterical every single time he sees me getting him a sippy cup or something to eat and I don't give it to him right that second. He's been like that forever he would see the bottle being made and freak out until he had it in his mouth. I thought he would grow out of it but it seems that he's just getting more impatient as he gets older. Any suggestions to break him of this? I know it's kind of hard at this age to explain to him or reason with him but I'm unsure how to handle it, I don't want him to get worse as he gets even older and be an impatient man. Any advice is very welcomed. Thank you. |

you're right Beth, at this age they are hard to reason with. I have 3 boys and had the same problem with each of them. The good new is that it does get better, what really helped me at that stage was to try to be a step ahead of them at all times, it wasn't always easy but what helped me was to keep the sippy cups ready to go in the fridge - one with juice and 3 with milk (morning, noon and night). Many times they would want something to drink and I wouldn't even know where the cups were, when I found them I would need to wash and by then all hell had broken loose.
I hope this helps. Good luck. |

wow this is a really good idea heheh i might have to try that. I think most infants and toddlers are like this. My eldest is like this and he is 5 and he still acts like he is going to die if he doesn't get what he wants. Now i make wait and i teach him that he must be patient and not be rude. But my 13 month old has fits now when its time to eat and drink. It was easier when i was nursing because lol it was readily avail to him so he never really had to fuss. hope the idea of having things ready and trying to be one step ahead helps :) |

I know exactly what you mean. If I say the word milk, hungry, snack or even outside (because he loves going outside) my son ( who is 16 mos old) goes nuts. Even when I put socks on him he is at the door, I have to get everything ready and do what I need to do before I put his socks on or even mention anything. I guess its because he doesn't understand the concept of time yet, but it can kind of drive you nuts yourself. My husband and I are already playing the spelling game like "Did you get the M-I-L-K ready" or get him a pair of S-O-C-K-S haha. Before you know that won't work anymore either. |

Thank you all so much, it's nice to know your not the only one in the situation. I thought I was going to have a little maniac on my hands, but I'll try to be ahead of him with the sippy cup idea and just wait for him to outgrow his impatience. Thank you all again. |
