My ten week old sleeps about 18-20 hours in a 24 hour period. Is this normal? Seems like he wakes up from sleeping and 45 minutes later is tired. Can someone post what a typical day with their 2 month old is like in terms of sleeping. Thanks so much! |

Hi Megan, It does seem like a lot, but at that age all babies really do is eat and sleep. They need their strength for all of their growing! You should talk to your pedi though, just for piece of mind.... |

megan, check out my reply to your question on routine/sched, maybe it'll help. But yes it's normal for them to sleep a lot because they're developing at exponential rates and remember that every baby is different some sleep more than others. Normal sleep for now is 16-20 hrs so he seems just fine. |

Megan, Be thankful your baby sleeps that much. My daughter, who is 12 weeks is up most of the day now. She sleeps all night 9 out of 10 nights but is up for most of the day. She can usually stay awake for 4 hours at a time, and belive me you run out of things to do with an infant to keep them happy for that long. Especially when they can't crawl yet. He should start coming out of it pretty soon and start being awake more during the day. But he is probably just growing, alot! How much does he weigh now and how much does he eat? |

Wow, consider yourself lucky girl! My baby didn't sleep for longer than 45 minutes at a time, 2 times a day and was up every 2-3 hours at night when she was that age! I agree with the other ladies--i would ask the doctor just to make sure. However, your baby is a good judge of what it needs so he might just need lots of rest! |

Thanks guys I will call and ask. Of course right after I posted this yesterday he only slept for three hours total during the day. I think when he sleeps alot he is just growing. He is in the 95th percentile for height and weight so he has grown alot since he was born at 7 pounds 11 ounces to 15 now and 4 inches taller. |

My daughter is 8 weeks today, and her sleeping habits are different on a day to day basis. Yesterday she slept basically the whole day just got up to eat and was up a bit more around dinner time. But other days she will only nap once for 2 hours or so. So with Molly it just depends on her day! |

Yes, my son also does this. It usually happens during growth spurts or illness. I didn't worry too much about it because everyday is going to be different. |

My 7 week old daughter sleeps sometimes 20 hours ina a 24 hour period and occasionally she is awake for almost this long. I think it seems normal, as they are growing and changing so much. I just wish she would sleep through the night at at least a five hour stretch. |
