Hi, I am a mom of a ten week old boy. I have to go back to work in five weeks and was wondering if I should try to put him into a schedule since he will be going to daycare. Up until this point I have been doing what he needs on demand as far as feeding and sleeping. If I should put him on a schedule how do I go about doing that?
Also for those who breastfeed, at this age how often do they usually eat?
Thanks! |

I didnt breast feed, but had to go to work @ 8 weeks, so i started the shedule thing @ 6 weeks, and she was much happier and it worked :) I did bath @ 7:30, followed by a bigger than normal bottle ( i did 6 oz, she was used to 4), in her own room and crib, and it took 3 days and she was sleeping till 5-6 am, which was perfect for my schedule :) |

Megan, if you keep track of his eating and sleeping you will probably notice a pattern. Once you see his pattern you can start to build his schedule based on that. Write down for one week when he eats and sleeps. Then if you start to see, for example that he eats every 3 hours, you can be ready a little early and get him used to eating around the same time every day. This will be helpful in starting daycare because it will be something familiar and predictable to him. I will work best if you build a schedule around his needs instead of trying to make one that works for your needs.

I agree. I just started back to work monday after being off for almost 3 months. I was also worried about having a "schedule" and got some great advice from the mommies on this website. Once I started to pay attention to her routine I found that every day she was pretty much eating and sleeping about the same time give or take. Do get a night time routine that works for you. Remember that they change so much at this age, even daily. I still feed her when she is hungry and as much as she wants. Some days she eats more than others and as long as your baby is gaining weight it will be okay. |

Thanks guys that helps! I will journal what he does for about a week and see if there is any routine to it. I think there is. I appreciate the help. |

I've also done the routine thing. First he eats, then plays and when he's tiered/fussy/cranky I put him to sleep and he sleeps 1-2.5hrs. For breastfeed babies they need 6-8 feedings a day. I've been doing this since he was born and he started sleeping through the night about 4weeks ago and I was told not to feed him at night. Make sure that when you feed him that its a full feeding then he'll be happy and everything will fall into place. |
