Colicy Baby
My daughter screams from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. every night. I change her, feed her, rock her, bathe her, sing to her, and nothing seems to be working. I find myself putting her in her crib at night to let her cry herself to sleep. I feel horrible, but sometimes I get so frustrated, I can't stand to be in the house with her any longer. This feels wrong, and I feel like I am being a bad parent. HELP!

I don't mean to alarm you in any way but sometimes pediatricians dismiss too easily colicy baby telling the parents they have to wait the first three monthes and then everything will get better. Sometimes baby suffers from some kind of heartburn so try to observe her behavior while she is crying, is she trying to strech her body? Once has been established that it is just colics then just thing to how crancky is an adult with a stomac ache! If you translate that to a newborn you get 3 hours of crying. Be patient with her and with yourself...it is normal that she cries and it is normal that you feel frustrated and tired. Try to rock her face down by putting a little pressure on her belly....whatever helps!

I hope you have a better night!

My daughter was a colicky baby also. She screamed and cried all the time. It wasn't untiol she was a toddler that we realized she was lactose intolerant (like her mother). Talk with your pediatrician about trying a different formula.

Thanks ladies! That helps. We have changed her formula to soy and that seems to be helping. She is spending a lot more time awake now (smiling and cooing). She still has episodes where she seems unconsolable, but we have found a temporary fix that seems to help. Earlier, she would not accept a pacifier, but if I give her a pacifier and lay her on her tummy (supervised) she quiets down. It seems like she fell in love with the pacifier over night. Thanks for your suggestions.

My baby is very gassy and it causes her to cry a lot. Like you said laying her on her belly helps the pressure but I also bought Little Tummies Gripe Water and that allows her to get out a lot of the gas and settles her tummy.

My son was colicky also. I found that the vacuum cleaner helped. I would either hold him while I vacuumed, but then I found a vacuum cleaner cd on the internet and bought that and would put him in his bouncy seat and play the cd. It helped. I also have given him gripe water. It helped most of the time. My son also has reflux.
