Depression Before and After
I wanted to share somthing a little different to help someone out there with the same problem I had. I have Clinical Depression and faced pregnancy knowing this. I have been on medication and been in therapy for my illness for 13 years so I am not new to this problem, but I was new to the idea of being pregnant and bringing a new life into my world. At the time I got pregnant I had just started a new medication that was not safe for pregnancy. I had to make the decision to switch to a different less effective medication for the sake of my unbord child. I also had to take into account that I had to be more aware of my symptoms so as to be more in control of my depression. I needed to be at the top of my game for my baby. Also, knowing that I already had Depression, my doctor and I were more prepared for the fact that I would probably experience some bouts of PPD. We wanted to be ready for the inevitable. Being prepared helped when I did start to feel some bad feelings. For me, years of experience taught me to notice things like, loss of appetite, loss of energy, feelings of sadness, general malaise, weepiness. As soon as I realized what was happening, I called my doctor. We were ready. He increased my meds and I worked on my own therapeutic conditioning. My husband who was aware of everything was very supportive. THrough it all I gave my baby extra hugs to remind myself that I was doing all of this for him. That got me moving each day, especially on the days when it was hard to even get out of bed. In the end I can joyfully say that I have conquered the bouts of PPD that have hit my thus far and am confident that I can battle any that may come my way again. I have Clinical Depression and live with it everyday, but it doesnt rule my life. I have a baby now and he is the best reason to keep on top of my illness.

Thanks Beth for your story. What makes your story so important, is those who don't realize they have depression and wait and don't get the help they need. For instance, I had it before I was pregnant, but did nothing, and during my pregnancy, but did nothing. And after my son was born it was so sevre, that I waited six months after he was born to get medication. Believe me, I was on top of it with my second son. I also didn't have the support of other mothers like I do now, with raising them.com. I have organized a local mommy group in my area with mothers like myself. Thanks again Beth for your story, and I know it will be significant for someone who reads it. Thanks.

WOW Beth, that was a great story. I really hope this helps someone to know that they can survive and there actually is life after PPD.

Thank you so much for sharing a beautifully inspiring story!!
