Pacifier

At my daughter's 12 month check-up her doctor said that she would like to see the pacifier gone by 15 months. I asked if there was a specific reason (delayed speach, tooth formation, etc.) she said no. She just does not think older babies need pacifiers. We have gotten my daughter to where she only uses it at naps, at night, and occaisionally at church. Is there a good way to lessen pacifier use to just night or take it away? I know some people have the "Paci fairy" come and leave a special gift for older children or tell them that the paci is going to be given to babies, but does any one have any suggestions for a younger child? I know it may take time until my daughter no longer needs it which is why I am thinking about it now. I am a teacher and with it being summer I can afford some sleepless nights in the next few months now. Is it too soon? Should I wait until she is older? We also want to start thinking about baby #2 in the fall and I don't want to be taking the paci away when baby #2 comes along.

Oh I give up on the rules we are "suppose" to follow. Let her have her darn pacifier she'll grow out of it eventually. It can delay speech (so I have read in the over abundant literature out there designed to make mommies crazy) if you leave it in all the time but you're not doing that. Let her have her pacifier and all will be the happier.
