When To stop........venting

I am sure some of you have experienced this, but my daughter is almost 16mths olds and still nurses in the morning and night.  I have been getting told alot that she is getting a little to old.  It is soooo anoying.  I like to make the point that alot of babys are still given at least a bottle before bed.  What is the differnece?  Then they say oh I guess you have a point.  so irritating.......

My son is 17 mos and still nursing morning, noon and night...and in between.  I get the same responses.  As long as you are feeling comfortable, follow your heart.  Besides, nursing is like magic!  My son's eye was watery last night from allergies.  I put a little on it and this morning it was gone...amazing.  Little tricks like that makes it hard for me to stop.  I encourage you to take your time.   You will know when you are ready.

Best wishes to you and your daughter.

I have had the same response!  I'm a first time mom and I have heard that babies naturally wean themselves, is this true?? My son is 14 months, and I still nurse him morning, up to 2 times during the day, and before bed too.

Yes, kids will naturally wean themselves when they are ready.  Usually, that is somewhere between 2 and 4 years of age.  The WHO recommends babies be nursed until at least age 2, so that is a handy fact to have on hand for people who stick their nose into your nursing relationship!  I currently have a 2 1/2 year old nursling and a 3 month old nursling.  I seriously doubt either of them will stop soon, but that is okay.  My older son stopped nursing when he was about 3 1/4 years old.

People that dont breastfeed dont understand.  I did end up quiting nurseing when Madi was about 19mths, because we were going on a plane and it was just the two of us and it would be to much of a pain.  I loved our experience though.

I dont know how people can be so judgeing for people who breatfeed and not the opposite.

I absolutely agree!  I have decided that any time anyone makes a comment I will use it as an opportunity to educate them.  I am hoping that it will make it easier for even one new mom someday. I also remember that I am creating a safe place for my son to come to when he needs comfort and nourishment.  I believe that it sets us up for a closer bond even after he decides to wean ( on his terms). Next time someone says something try to tell yourself that there are other moms out there that are cheering you on!!!
