I'm flying home to visit my family in a couple weeks without my husband. Does anyone have any travel advise to make the flight easier for myself, my 2m old and the people around me?
Also do you have to buy a ticket for them as well? How do you take the car seat with you? What about the play pen?

We just got back from a trip from St. Louis to Sacramento, CA with my 4 month old. We did not buy a seat for him, you don't have to until their 2 years old. My pediatrician even suggested not buying a seat and I didn't see the benefit.
A must when flying is to feed your baby at takeoff and during the descent to help the baby's ears. If that doesn't work have a pacifier handy - we ended up using both.
As for the car seat you can check that as a check on so that it comes out the same time as your luggage. They'll usually put it in a plastic bag to help protect it. And then what was helpful to us was to bring his stroller and we had it as a gate check for the layover. So when we landed the stroller was waiting right there as we got off the plane. It was extremely handy during the layover to walk him around the airport.
I would also suggest bringing warm clothes for your baby as the plane and airport does get cool. I'm sure your two month old will probably sleep (our 4 month old did once his ears adjusted) so bring something that keeps the baby comfortable.
ENJOY THE TRIP and GOOD LUCK!

I went over seas with my son when he was almost 5 months, we took the car seat and stroller with us . We were able to carry on the car seat and stroller. They do make you leave it with them right before boarding, they have a place to keep it so don't worry you will get it back I worried at first but then I saw how it worked and it was great. It depends what air line and where you fly we flew international to Jordan so we had to pay for our son a ticket. You should be able to take the pack in play with you as a carry on as well you get 2 bags for you and the baby to carry on.I would call the air line to make sure tho, make sure you wait to feed the baby until you are taking off it is really important due to pressure that they suck on something at take off and when you land it can hurt their ears badly if you don't. The air line won't tell you this but it will.

i had to do this too, i gave her a bottle while the plan took off and then she fell asleep. you dont need a ticket for the baby cause she has to stay on your lap unless you are using a car seat to keep her in then you have to pay for the seat and keep the baby in the car seat. as far as the car seat goes, you get to bring the stroller or car seat to the front of plane and they take it for you and put it in storage somewhere, you should call your airline. as for the pack and play, that might be considered a piece of luggage, however, i just rented a port a crib when i was away. for a baby that young you really dont need to take one, she can sleep on a bed with stuff around her as long as she is wrapped and you sleep with her. they have little bed like things for that. good luck.

Only one thing to add. I've traveled with my son a few times. Ask at check in if there are any open seats. When I traveled if there were open seats they changed my seat to be next to the open one free of charge and let me carry on his car seat. So I had somewhere to set him down and to strap him in. It worked out great. If there is an open seat they will help you out and give it to you.

I also was breast feeding, so I got window seats so that I could feed during take off and landing with a little privacy. I just covered up with a receiving blanket and no one was bothered. If you are breast feeding, you know how it is. Some people don't mind at all and others look at you like you are flashing the world, even when you are covered up.

Good luck.

I also took my son on a flight without my husband when my son was 2 months old. I was so nervous but once we got on the 1st plane everything was fine. I too gave him his pacifier when we took off and landed and I had no problems. I did ask at the desk for an empty seat and I was able to keep him in his carrier next to me. That was perfect to keep him comfortable and he slept most of the way. I did have my stroller with me too, they checked it right before I got onto the plane and it was there when we got off each time. You will do fine, most people love babies and you'll get alot of attention if you want it.
Have fun visiting your family.

I do know that I didn't think they would charge for a baby either , how ever for international flights I was informed that all airlines charge for the baby to fly but in non international flights they don't charge. I told them that was crazy he was a baby but they said it was regulations going that far they have to, we didn't even get a seat for him but had to pay for him to fly. Try to get a bassinette seat those are great they have them. At one flight they were nice and moved us around to where there was an extra seat and we used the car seat in the extra seat.It just depends on the air line, Luftansa is who we flew with.

Yeah, babies usually don't get charged ticket price until they are 2 years old.
But, I wanted to say that I'm impressed with your courage! We've driven every trip because I'm too chicken to fly with an infant! :0)
Good travels and hope you have a nice visit with your family

We have to fly to Brussels in Aug and I had all the same questions....we have to pay for a full price ticket for our 4 month old, kind of crazy but it seems worth it when you have a whole row to ourselves. And my ped said to try Benedryl if we were worried he wont sleep. I have heard some mothers have had the opposite affect so we are taking the Tylenol as backup. Most hotels have cribs you can use, we just went to Vegas and San Diego and they brought it with a clean sheet and free baby stuff (shampoo, etc)

we also were told to bring the car seat for the flight and check the stroller...you can use the car seat to strap them into the airline seat. I didnt know this either until a family member with 4 kids told us.

ok, good luck

One more question.....
I have been pumping and giving her bottles half breast milk and half formula. I have a freezer full of milk for when I stop pumping at the end of July. Do you think I will be able to bring any of the frozen milk with me?

Yes that shouldn't be a problem.

You could call your airlines ahead of time to ask about the milk...they may have certain containment guidlelines...how much you should package and in what type of containers and so on.

i took my son to n.c last weekend the flight was only about an hour, you dont have to buy a ticket for the baby you can hold him if you want to travel with a car seat or play pen you can gate check it and it will be right there waiting for you once you land instead of checking it in with your luggage and as far as feeding goes if you use formula you should use the powder type for traveling its easier and just bring a bottle of water to mix it, have a safe trip
