Local Hiking Club

Howdy Ladies.

Want to get outdoors more with your kids?  Family?  By yourself?  See the Interior?

Join the local hiking club.

"We are a group of Interior Alaska residents who enjoy visiting all the nooks and crannies of Alaska under our own power. We explore on foot, by boot, ski, and snowshoe the many beautiful areas of the state of Alaska. Our trips take us to Denali National Park, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), the White Mountains, along the Chena and Tanana Rivers, and many of the places that visitors spend a lifetime dreaming about, all under the midnight sun and the aurora borealis. "

For the easy, family fun hike - check out the Tuesday evening hikes.  Rotating the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks between the Salcha Ski Trails, Moose Creek Bluff, Ester Dome, Skyline Ridge, and other locations, and repeating the 1st through 4th Tuesdays of the month. If there is a 5th Tuesday, it is leader's choice. Contact trip leader for details and to make sure where that week's hike will be. Contact is John Risser 488-6500.

I have been on a hike.  It was a four mile, two hour hike near Moose Creek Bluff (past the flood plains).  It was a great hike for my family w/ Morgan in a carrier (i recommend a rigid hiking carrier rather than usual soft carriers we use around town.  Morgan even got to walk a little on her own.

Hope to see you out there.  I am unable to make the hikes every tuesday but have high hope to make it to at least three a month.

Also, they will be scheduling overnight backpacking trips along with a longer hike on Saturdays.  Check out their web page for more info or contact John.

Lastly, there is a fee to be a member of this wonderful, local club.  John suggests that you try out a couple of hikes first.  If it is a good fit then join.

See you on the trails.

These are great hikes and very family friendly.  Morgan and i have participated in the last two hikes which are between 3 and 4 miles.  The first was out past the Chena flood plains which my husband also joined.  The second was out on Ester Dome Rd.

If is just the one parent or care giver, come out.  There are usually someone in the group who is willing to help carry kids, assuming they will let them.  Morgan is still quite the momma's girl and will only let me carry her.  Needless to say, i had a very good workout.

Hope to see you on the trails.
