Hello does anyone go through this?
I was just leaving my fathers and my son wanted to take a toy with him. He has SO many and these are there for him when he is at his house.
He was freaking out. Hitting me, sitting in the ground, and screaming.
He is 3 1/2 and has not done this in a long time.
I was going out if my mind and of course yelling at him. telling him he is being naughty and he is going in time out.
What do I do in that situation? Meanwhile we live in an apartment and this is on the main street and everyone can see me. I was so embarrassed cause you people who don't have kids stare at you.
Maybe he was just over tired? Or just having a tantrum?

Hi Lauren ' Relax woman we all go through tantrums with u u are not alone and jeez i mean dont ya just wanna kill people who stare and judge always seems to be the ones with NO kids. Dont even mind then Lauren. Your son was probably over tired all kids get like that when they are tired. My son is 2 1/2 he is pretty good but does get mad when it is time to go in the house but i have learned to make it fun by saying ok u can have one little cookie (there little too LOL) or if u are really good u can watch one ABC show. Just try not to freak it makes it SOOO much worse. Laura |

Hi Lauren, You know how they say "terrible two's"? Well, with my son it was the "terrible three's", lol! It's a phase that will pass, my son only gets that way now when he's tired. He was such a handful when he was three, and well into four, but now that he's five, he seems like an angel compared to the child he used to be, lol!! Just give him some time :) |

Hi Lauren,
I don't know if this will work, but my 17 mos old was hitting me in the face. He was in the nursery and one of the kids in there was doing that to him (the preachers grandkid of all kids haha) and so I would hit him lightly back on the hand and he would hit me again. So when I went to my pedi I asked her for suggestions and she said to put him to your eye level and say No SIR or MAM you may not hit and then sit him/her on the couch and walk away. My son eventually got the message after a few times and hasn't done it since its been about 2 months. |

Its Amy again
I forgot to say I'm not blaming the kid in the nursery cause all kids go through the hitting thing I just think that gave him the idea for that time. The pedi also said kids like the reaction they get from you that's why they keep doing it, I guess it depends on the reaction. My reaction was shock with my mouth wide open, he must of thought it was funny...???haha |

Hi Lauren - I have a 3 1/2 year old as well and we have experienced the same tantrums. First, don't worry about other people watching. ANYONE who has had children knows that these tantrums are unavoidble! Second, sometimes you have to pick your battles espcially if you know that your child is over tired. When they get to that point, their ability to control their emotiond diminishes, and this ability is limited to begin with. |
