CLOTHES CLOTHES CLOTHES!

Hello everybody, I just thought I'd drop by to say hi and generate some activity sense nobody has posted for a while.

I have a large family and I live in a "slab" house (In midwest terms that is a house with no basement).  I grew up with a basement and I'm used to a basement, what kind of house doesn't come with a basement? (LOL) Anyways I dont have enough storage space for my clothes. The house is a beautiful four bedroom home. When I first looked at the house I fell in love with it, especially for the price. I was thinkin', "Who needs a basement, I'll donate some clothes and throw some away."  Yeah right, that did not work. I have a laundry room, bdrm closets and two hall closets, but there is always an over flow of clothes no matter what I do! I've tried hanging everything up an putting things in all the draws, I've even tried those shallow totes that you roll away under the bed but I'm still always drowning in CLOTHES CLOTHES CLOTHES. How many clothes is too much? I've tried to narrow it down as much as I can, leaving only decent/newer clothes and bedding but its still too much.  Somebody help............Anyone have suggestions?

I have this problem with my daughters clothes because I don't get rid of any of them. But luckily hers are much smaller so I can just toss them in the back of her closet. I would suggest buying some of those vacuum bags, I can't remember what they are called. But supposedly they work really well, just throw the clothes in, vaccum the air out and you have the same amount of clothes that can fit in a smaller area. I believe they have quite a few sizes of bags too, including a hanging one. I think they would be a great investment if your having this much of a problem.

Thanks again Becky. Although I am a very thrifty mom, this might be a novel idea.  When I look at the commercial I'm thinking, "why would I pay that much money for a bag?" but perhaps they might work for me. Its worth a shot, sounds like a wise investment.  I hope they are easy to use. I have paid $20 dollars per tote for 4 60 gallon containers that my kids destroyed and even more for the "rollaway" totes. The "rollaway" totes would have been perfect if they where more durable so I hope the space-bags are heavt duty (lol)....................Thanx again!

I go by the "throw it away if you haven't worn it in 2 years" rule....well, most of the time.

I also have those rolling hanging clothes racks - they take up space, but the clothes are hung up.

I do throw things away and am successful with that, but when it comes down to the clothes that are "still "ok" I have a hard time. We have about 2 40 gallon containers of white socks.

I am starting to think that I will have no other option than to throw more away. Sometimes I just look at all of them and want to just throw everything away! (LOL)

Is is just the concept of "throwing away" that concerns you? If so, just donate the "still ok" clothes to a worthy cause. There are many unfortunate people in this country that would greatly appreciate anything.  Find a shelter, Salvation Army, Goodwill, church, Red Cross, or anything similar and donate those clothes. Some family would be thrilled to be able to provide their kids with just the necessities, much less a possible clothing treat. An adult could use better clothes to find a new job, etc. Good Luck!

I absolutely agree with you, Kim just donate the clothes to a worthy cause.  I usually donate clothes to Savers, which is a store that takes the good clothes and sells it.  Savers also recycle some of the clothes, shoes, furniture.  You would also be able to get a tax receipt and it would be considered a tax write-off.  I do not apply to this because the tax write-off is only good for anyone that owns a home. At least, you would feel good that your old stuff is being put to good use.

I thought I was the only person with mountians of clothes. I usually trade my kids clothes at local consignment shops or the tot trades that come around twice a year. That way I get new bigger clothes for the kids. I clean out my clothes twice a year for a couple of new outfits. I hope this helps.
