Homemade Baby Food
I was ready some of the post about homemade baby food and I have a question. Several people have mentioned to me with my 2nd child that I might want to think about making her food. It sounds great to me, cause then I will know exactly what is in it. She is 6 months old and I could really use some help.

How do you do it?

Cook some veggies, such as carrots, peas, green beans, squash or sweet potatoes until they are very soft. Then put them into a food processor until there are no chunks and it has a smooth, almost runny consistency. I added a little bit of water into the food processor to get the right consistency.

To store it, put it into ice cube trays and freeze, then remove from tray and put in a ziploc bag. One cube is about one serving for now.

As she gets older, you can make the consistency a little thicker, and she may move up to 2 cubes per serving.

As for fruit, cook apples and pears and then puree the same way as veggies. Bananas and peaches don't have to be cooked. Hold off on citrus fruits and strawberries untill she is a little older.

The only thing I can add is the bags that you store the frozen cubes of food should be "Freezer safe".

I love making my own baby food! My son is 8 months old and I have being doing it since he stared on fruits and veggies. At first I did freeze it in the ice cube trays and it worked perfectly as the portion size was good then. Now I just occasionally buy some gerber food in the plastic rectangular containers and recycle the container. It works great. I cook two or three kinds of veggies or fruits and then mix them in the food processor then pour them in the container and then freeze them. Also now that he is older and able to eat more variety, I sometimes take whatever meats I have made for my own dinner and stick that in the food processor with some veggies and make a few more meals for him. Saves a lot of money on baby food, plus I know exactly what is going in his little body!! I highly recommend it!

My advice on this is:

used butternut squash -- it's a pain to peel, but it's so yummy and creamy on it's own & very good for you -- you're going to want to eat some it for your own soup!

apples -- don't leave them by themselves, blend them with blueberries or oatmeal and bananas or something sweet, because apples are as sweet as we think on their own! Mine came out a little to sour!
