toddler questions.
Hi all,
My name is Jennifer and I have a little girl who is 23 months old. Up until the last week or so she has been a great eater. Lately, she gives me a hard time and or throws her bowl or plate full of food onto the floor. She will then later indicate to me that she is hungry.. (she is speech delayed so she can't say it yet), but when I give her more food she just throws it all over the floor and doesn't eat it.

Any suggestions on how I can get her to eat it?

I have the same problem with my son who is 26 months old. He will only eat certain foods and just plays with the stuff he doesn't want. My doctor told me just to give him what he'll eat, like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, mac and cheese. Even if he eats the same thing every day, as long as he eats. It's a phase and they'll grow out of it, just keep offering different foods and eventually she'll eat it.

Good Luck:)

I have tried giving her things that she likes but it doesn't seem to work. She can't tell me exactly what she wants because she can't talk. I will give her choices and let her point. Also, she will sometimes eat something and indicate that she wants me, then when I give her more she throws it on the floor.

Jenn Im sorry to hear u are going thru this it is frustrating Im sure. The only advise I can offer is TRY to be patient with her keep offering things she likes and she will eat when she is hungry for sure. I meanshe isnt going all day with no food is she ??

No, I haven't tried the PediaSure shakes. That's a good idea. If it keeps up or gets worse I will do that. I'm hoping she'll improve again once she starts her speech therapy. Thanks for the suggestion.

Due to her age is it possible that she's teething?

She could be teething. She hasn't gotten her two year molars yet. I keep trying to check, but she doesn't like me poking around in her little mouth.

Jennifer,
Don't feel alone, my niece did the same thing, she wouldn't even drink when her molars were first coming in, and her not letting you see is a good sign that she is. My sister in law lets my nephew walk around with a peeled cucumber (quartered length-wise) when he is teething, this might work if you don't believe in using over the counter drugs to alleviate the pain. Good luck.
