New Mom at 40

Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a 40 y/o mom. My son is 9 months old. I am about to be a SAHM and not sure how I will handle it since I have been working since I was 16 years old. On one hand I am so excited but on the other I'm very nervous and not sure how I will adjust to the change. Our plan is for me to go back to work when he is in school but I have fears about whether or not anyone will hire me at my age after being out of work for a few years. AND I do not have a degree. I am looking to meet other moms of young ones that are close to my age.

Hi Terri

I am SAHM too, my son just turned two and I turned 48. Having my son and giving up a carrier to stay home with him is the best that happened to me. You are not going to get board for sure, you hardly get time for yourself

Hi terri,

I am 44 and have a three year old.  I just became a sahm.  My advice to you is 1st enjoy your time that you have with your son.  I wish I could turn back the clock.  I had to work when I 1st had my daughter.

What ever your skill set is at 40 I am sure in the next few years, if you are unable to go back to the same industry that you left, you will be able to reinvent yourself and add on a few new skills partime within the next few years, if you elect to do so.  I am certain you have gained some transferrable skills since you have been working since you were 16 years old.  Those skills you will be able to take with you to your new prospective employer after your son is enrolled in school fulltime.  Within the next year after your son begins to eat more whole foods, check out getting a degree online partime. You may get lucky and carve out a little time to take a class or two in your down time.

Good luck and God bless.
