Homemade wraps anyone?

I love the mobywrap (www.mobywrap.com) but was wondering if anyone has made one at home that is similar.  I was toying with the idea of trying to make one at home and thought that I would see if anyone else has attempted this yet.  I mean it seems like just a huge length of jersey material that tapers off towards the ends.

If you have any experiences, patterns, good material choices please let me know.

Thank you,

~Janette

Hi! That's soo awesome that you want to learn how to wrap your baby. I wanted to do this so bad with my second daughter when she was born but wasn't willing to spend about $80 on a moby wrap so I headed off to Wal-Mart and looked in the clearance fabric section. I found some t-shirt like/stretchy material and bought 6 meters - 18' so I would have plenty to work with. My daughter is now 8 1/2 months old but she is getting to heavy for the stretchy material.  I would find myself having to re-wrap after about an hour. I found some really pretty brown gauzy like fabric for a summer wrap but found it to be a little too stiff and rubbing on her neck, even after washing. Then I heard about Onsaburg fabric and went to Fabricland with a friend. She's making my flower girl dresses so we split the $17 cost of a yearly membership and I got the Onsaburg fabric for 1/2 price. Regularly it is veryexpensive ($9/meter) but I got it for $4.50 so it turned out to be just under $30 for the wrap.

The t-shirt like material was $15 and there was enough for two wraps (dye them two different colours) and the brown gauzy was $11 and enough for two wraps.

These are good fabrics - maya knit or jersey knit type material. Check this link out too - http://www.rookiemoms.com/wrap-your-baby-and-stay-warm/.

Good luck!!!
