Help 3 year old out of control

How do we get our 3 year old to listen to us and do what she is told and what kind of dicipline should we use. She also is hitting and talking back at us and throwing tantrums. we have tried so many things we dont know what to do now? Can anyone help us?

Gosh how I feel for you, we went through the same thing with my grandson who is now four.  He went from being a perfect 2 year old to this uncontrolable 3 year old right on the day of his birthday.

Stay calm it won't last forever.  Another positive note is his brother turned three and did not act this way.

What we found worked is getting all the parents (we are a 3 adult family - grandma, mom and dad) on the same page.  This is what we will accept and this is what we will not accept.  We watched Super Nanny and Nanny 911 with him.  He saw how they acted and how they got disciplined. We used the same techniques on him - time out chair - bring him, timer doesn't start until he is quiet, reset the time, ok reset it again........

he isn't dumb and caught on pretty quick that he had to change.  It was a LOT of work and still is but it does work if you follow through.  It is a phase and she will outgrow it and give you something else to worry about soon.

Another thing that works amazingly well is a prize box.  The boys get stars for doing chores or doing something they are asked to do and after getting five stars they go to the prizebox for a treat.  The parents don't allow candy in the prize box but somehow when Nana lets the boys into the box hmmmm there is a little candy "Mommy must have forgotten" :)

Good luck to you - and be happy she is a normal three year old, testing her ground.

We have run into the same issue lately. I have noticed our daughter is more apt to behave badly if she is hungry or tired. We have started sticking to a schedule of eating and napping and bedtime. I also think time-outs when done right. We do them where she sits in on our stairs for 3 minutes. We start the timer. If she gets down or starts acting worse, the time starts again. The frustrating part comes in when you put have to continously put them back in time out for failure to remain quiet. It does take work and sometimes it seems easier to just give up, but don't do it. You guys can get through it and it won't be like this forever.
