Teething

My four month old daugher is teething. I have tried all sorts of things to help her. A chilled teething ring, a cloth wrapped ice cube, massaging her gums with my finger and a baby tooth brush. Nothing seems to help! I have tried to find one of those wands that vibrates and has the soft chewies on it, but I can't find one anywhere. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I feel so bad for her having to go through it and I can't be any help!

I'm a mom of 2, a 22 month old and a 6 week old, the one thing that helped me the most with my son, was generic teething tablets that I got OTC at Cvs. You just put one or two in the babys mouth, and it will numb their mouth, it may freak them out a little at first, but they are okay after a few minutes! If that doesn't help, then maybe a slightly cold wash cloth that's been in the freezer for a few minutes. That seemed to work also. I really hope this helps you!!

the vibrating thing is by Infantino and is a big strawberry shaped teether, can be found in the infant small toys section in Walmart for about $6. I know coz I bought one, having tried out just about every teething product known to man! It does help my baby...I also give him hard teething rusks which he loves to gnaw on - they are suitable for toothless babies and are made of good stuff, they are brown and made by Nature's Earth I think, I buy them in Walmart also. My baby chews away on the but can't bite bits off even with teeth, they are that hard. eventually bits of it "melt" off, and its a bit messy but the chewing really relieves his teething pain. When he's really bad I have used orajel which works QUICK, but I try stay away from drugged stuff unless like I said if he's suffering terribly and nothing else works. I keep a massive bag of frozen teethers in the freezer also and make sure he's got one throughout the day in his hand, I find if he's chewing on one even when he's not teething, it helps out instead of waiting to give him a teether - for him to start dribbling and crying...so his gums stay nice and cool which I think reduces the pain build up. Hope this helps!

my son teethed basicly this whole first year, he started at 3months and by 12 months had 16teeth...and now at 15months he is still teething(he's getting his 2yr molars now)

When he first started and untill he was around 9months we used the Hyland teething tablets and the gel....AND we even used the baby orjel and those are the only thing besides giving him something that actually workedl.  NOW after he brushes his teeth(well I do it) he just chews on the tooth brush.

We also tried just a frozen(not real frozen but frozen but soft) wash cloth and he liked to suck on them OR chew on the nipples of his sippy cups.  I would even give him the childrens popsicles or just the sugar free ones and he LOVED to suck on them and then bite the cold.

I also used the teething tablets.  They are homeopathic and my doctor basically said they won't work - that it is just a home remedy.  But - I swore by them!! My son was instantly relieved of the pain - or at least he wasn't so irritable after he had one.

I also wet the corner of a washcloth and put it in the freezer.  That seemed to worked wonders.

Good luck!

My baby's been "teething" (fussy, knawing, the works) since January but no teeth have came in yet. Is this normal? I've tried the teething rings, the wet wash cloths, frozen was cloths, teething drops (under the toung) Green onions -the green stem (Old family thing everyone swears by) and nothing really works. I mean it will calm her down for a few, but then she seems to get over it on her own.  I've yet to try the tablets, but will now thanks to all the good reviews.

I did try the baby orajel twice. the first time she yelled & I thought it was just the shock of her mouth being numb. the second time she yelled and cried a cry of pain. I felt AWFUL to say the least. I had a "sensitive" tounge from eating my nieces sour gummy worms that day & I tried some of the baby orajel myself to see what she was feeling. OMG, it stung my toung soo bad. Not enough to make me cry or anything like that, but I figure if her gums are "ripping" and sensitive & she doesnt know any better, she's gonna wail when she felt what I did. Anyone else have a bad experience w/ baby orajel or any other teeting medicine?

My daughter has been teething since she was about born.  lol  I started with the homopathic tablets and then found the Disney teething drops which I think work better than the tablets.  She never likes the orajel, and I heard that it can accually harden gums and make teething harder.  I also bought my daughter a rasberry.  It is like a pacifier, but is bumpy and you put it in the freezer and my daughter loved/loves chewing on it.

April-sometimes it just takes the teeth a while to come in, I know that when my son was 2months he started teething but didn't get his first tooth till he was 4months and really it depends on the child too.  I've never heard of the baby orajel hurting before but if I was you I wouldn't use it on her again then.  I would say that the Hylands teething tablets work best and the Hylands teething gel...I never was able to put them under my sons tounge but he LOVED the taste and as soon as I would put 2 or 4 tablets in his mouth(cause they dissovle really quick) he would calm down and then pass out cause he didn't hurt as bad.

but really every baby is different, it might just take your little one a little longer or maybe not...I mean my son is 15 months, has 16 teeth and is working on his 2yr molars but my friends son who is 2months older has about 10 or 12 teeth SO it will depend.

I always used Camillia (made by Boiron), which is a homeopathic remedy. My son couldn't take the Hyland's tablets since he has a very bad gag reflex. They would make him gag and at times throw up. Camilia is in vials (liquid form) and looks like water. It was actually the only medicine (including Tylenol) that my four month old son wouldn't throw up. When the teething got really bad I would mix it with a little gripe water and he was a totally different kid (so MUCH happier and sleeping like an angel). I hope this helps. It has been a lifesaver for me!

I used Tylenol and Oragel with my son.  I would find the red sore area on his gum and put the gel only on that spot.  It worked wonders for letting him get to sleep.  During the day, I just gave him anything I could to chew on.  I tried the Hyland's tablets once and they didn't do anything for him.  Then I read several reports about the dangers of using them and decided that I did not want to take a chance using them again.  The tylenol and oragel worked great though so other than cold things to chew on, and the biter biscuits, that is what I used.

I read several teething articles because it seemed that my son was teething from the time he was about 3 months old but he did not get his first tooth until he was 9 months.  From what I read, teething generally starts 3-4 days before the tooth comes in, not months before.  So often, what we see as symptoms of teething are really due to something else entirly.  Especially the fever.  A lot of people think that a fever is a sign of teething, simply because that is what we have been told by older generations.  Studies have been done to show that a fever isn't a symptom of teething though.  Their temp can go up a little (to like 99 degrees) if they have been screaming their head off in pain, but having a fever of 100 or 101 is not part of teething.  So if you see this, then watch for other symptoms because it is likely that your little one has a virus.

I hope this helps and you find something that helps when your little girl is having pain from teething.
