Another new dilema in the life of katie. Her last 4 bathtimes have gotten progressively worse. She's fine when she's in the bath she even plays a little bit, but as soon as i take her out she's screaming. It started with getting her pj's on. When i would get ther last arm in she'd start to fuss then calm down. Then it started when i would put her legs in she would fuss until i was done. After that, when i would start putting them on she would fuss, and then the next bathtime she started screaming while i was putting on lotion. Tonight she started screaming as soon as i took her out of the bath, all through putting her lotion on and putting on her pj's. i can't figure out what is going on. we've had the same bathtime routine since i started giving her tub baths. any thoughts? |

I think she know it's about bed time maybe and doesn't want to really go to bed? |

I agree with Amber she could know that it is bedtime. Mackenzie has done this a couple times usually if it is to close to bedtime and is really tired. Maybe try doing bath time a little earlier? Good Luck |

I agree that it could be that she is just very tired. Try starting earlier so she is not as tired. Also, routines are great, but babies go through lots of changes as they grow and develop. It is ok to change the routine when something that used to work isn't working anymore. Try making some small changes to the routine and see what happens

I've tried giving her bath at different times, it used to be at 845, then at 8, i tried later in the night, and even as early as 7. She still cries when it's lotion time. i thought maybe her lotion was irritating her, so i switched to a different lotion and she still does the same thing. I don't really want to not put the lotion on because like me she has sensitive dry skin. i hope she will grow out of this. i'm just worried she is going to start hating her bath too. |

Maybe try giving her a bath in the morning. The lotion or your hands might feel cold to her. I know my hands are always cold. Try rubbing the lotion between your hands for a miute or so. Most of the time I sing to Mackenzie while she is being lotioned or we talk about our day and what we are doing right then. |

My son did the same exact thing you're describing. It did progress to happening in the water during the bath. Within a few days, he developed a bad cold. After he got over the cold, he was normal in the bath again. Perhaps she is coming down with something and not showing outward symptoms yet. Keep your eye on her for the next week and look for sniffles, hives, or other signs of illness. |

I read your dilema and then profiled and saw how young your angel is 4 months my god she is still like an infant dont worry at all. She is going through such changes at this age going from infant to a little being. I remember my son did similar things at that age and then days later would love the tub again. Dont really change the rountine much I really am a lover of rountine with my 29 month old son. If anything make the bath a little earlier. i wouldnt do it during the day though he could definintly screw her sleeping up . Laura |

Amanda I went through your problem before with my daughter and most of the time it was because she was really tired. Your daughter may asscociate bath time with bed time as all the other ladies have said. I tried different things, like ensuring her bottle was ready before we had a bath so that even if I could only get a diaper on I would have the cup ready for her, rushing to put her pj's on faster, and numerous other things. My daughter the same as yours has dry skin and eczema runs in our family so lotion is very important. I am not sure if any one thing really worked, but she has been enjoying her bath and not be totally over worked by the time her bath is done. Good luck and don't get to stressed out. |

I just went through the same thing with Christopher who is 18 months. He used to love the bath and now he climbs out or screams whenever I put him, I started taking showers with him and he loves it. Its hard because I'm afraid of him slipping but he does great and I never have a problem anymore. I'm not sure how old you daughter is but if shes old enough try taking showers with her the first time is a little scary for them with the water shooting down on their faces but after that I cant get my son in the bath. Let me know how everything works out for you guys |

Well i think i have figured it out. A friend of mine said she had the same problem with her son when he was this age (10 weeks) The lotion i was putting on her was seriously irritating her skin. I was using the Johnsons' Bed Time Bath, the one that is supposed to help them sleep. I switched to Gerber Sweet Pea body wash and lotion, and she cried during the lotin again but not as bad. So we'll try it again tonight and see what happenes but i think that was the problem. |
