Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton

I thought this book was fairly okay, since the paranormal stuff was more of the focus rather than the mystery stuff.  I thought who the vampire killer was became completely obvious on page 198 (of the hardcover....and there was a total of 306 pages), so I was kind of tempted to call it quits at that point.  I kept reading though since I was curious how things would play out with Nikolaos and what was happening between Jean-Claude and Anita (no, it was nothing romantic for anyone reading this post that didn't read this book).  I expected some sex in this book, since I've heard that Hamilton can go kind of overboard on that angle, but there really wasn't ANY at all, so I guess that is just a turn the series takes later.

One thing that irked me in this book was when she referred to wererats as lycanthropes.  Lycanthropes are werewolves.  Period.  It comes from the
Greek "lyc" meaning "wolf" and "anthrope" meaning "human".  Wererat would be whatever the Greek for rat is, followed by "anthrope".  Wererat is still correct though, since "were" stems from an Old (?...maybe Middle) English word for human.  It may seem like a minor quible, but I like my paranormal stuff well researched so this just gnawed at me every time the author used it incorrectly.

At the present time, I do plan on continuing to read this series, but depending on where it goes, I may not get hooked on it and could drop it at some point.  If it stays super mystery oriented, but with obvious answers to the mystery, I'll probably dump it, since I'm not big on mysteries anyway.  If it goes other directions, I'm more likely to keep following it.

Enough of my thoughts.  Anyone else read this one?  What did you think?

I have read both of her series books. Yes they will take a major turn and then you will not want to read them because they are all "erotic" with nothing else it gets a bit ridiculous but when she goes back to the story it's not bad.

I like the Fey series better. But as the books come out I still read them. Not bad but I am also not big on Mystery. I rather read Thrillers or some Fantasy (Terry Goodkind "Sword of truth" reries is awesome!)

I actually prefer erotica to mysteries so maybe I'd like the series better when it gets to that point. LOL  We shall see I guess.

Lexi, you would have been fine with this one and probably would have even liked it.

I think the reason I do not want to read it cause of the things that he told me about in the latter book. She def takes a turn for overboard sex and erotica.

I like fae book s better also.
