Refusing to eat anything

Hi all, I am trying to help my sister out here... Her 18mo son will not eat! He will eat breakfast OK but will not eat any lunch or supper.   He will sit and scream if you try to get him to eat which then gets their daughter started.   He will eat canned fruit and (baked from home) chicken nuggets.  Should everybody keep fighting with him? Is it OK to let him only eat the above listed foods all the time?  He has never been a big eater but it is only getting worse as he gets older.   Please help!!!

Jackie,

My twin boys who are 2 y/o are also picky eaters and there are times when they will only eat one meal a day.  Since I know they'll eat peaches and mandarin oranges, (and cooies!) I'll give them that whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Patrick loves french toast but I don't give it to him whenever he refuses to eat because I don't want him to get tired of it.  I think that's why they won't eat oatmeal anymore because I gave it to them just about everyday when they were babies.  And because my boys won't always eat three meals a day, it is noticable that Patrick has lost weight.  Not so much Ryan because he'll eat the fruit while Patrick sometimes refuses it.

As long as your nephew eats (even if it's the same thing) I wouldn't fight him on trying to get him to eat something else.  It's a battle you'll never win! When I try to get the boys to eat, it ends up on the floor if I'm too persistant!

Also have your sister talk to the pediatrician about her son's eating habits. He may say it's normal (all toddlers go through stages) and to let your sister's son eat whatever he wants even if its the same thing everyday.  Eventually he'll grow tired of it and may try something else.

Lots of luck!

Angela
