A Unique Problem, help me please

My now 16 month old (and 26lb.) son has always taken his naps in his bouncer. He never would stay still long enough to fall asleep with me laying down and if I rocked him to sleep, the act of getting up and laying him down would wake him up, so we used the bouncer. But now that he is almost a year and a half old, he is about to big to use the bouncer. He can make it touch the floor. So how do I put him down for his nap now? I can't just put him in his crib with a bottle like I do at night. I sleep trained him for bedtime, so I am familiar witht the cry it out in intervals method, but that doesn't work for naps. He knows its daytime and he will cry for an hour and never take a nap. Help me please.. any ideas?

Tessa, I think you're going to have to bite the bullet and sleep train for the daytime.  It will take you a bit longer since he's older, but it will be SO worth it.  If you can, you can try getting black-out shades or curtains for his windows and maybe even a white noise machine (or a radio set on static), then do a similar routine to the bedtime routine and make him learn it.  If he cries for an hour and never takes a nap, that can't last for very many days before he's too exhausted to make the effort, so I'd say give that a try and see how it goes.  But my sympathies to you.  It won't be very fun.

I do recommend you get him out of the bouncer pretty soon, though, I used to keep my kids in the bouncer when I was showering and one day I saw my daughter almost flip hers over.  You definitely don't want that to happen.

Good luck to you!
