Meat Problems....

Im not 100% sure if this is the right group but I bet it could help give me some ideas ^^

My daughter is 7 months old, putting on weight really well and over all really healthy. She eats a wide variety of foods, that I make for her myself in a blender. She would eat everything without a problem...that is until I gave her meat. She HATES meat, I mix it with veggies or fruit and she usually just gags till it comes up. I dont know what to do to make her more willing to eat some meat. But all is not lost since she LOVES tofu, so she isnt losing out on all the protine she needs - but would eating tofu every day for lunch be ok? I like to try and get a variety in her diet

Well my daughter used to love to eat turkey, etc as an infant, however as a toddler she will not eat ANY meat. I mean NONE! She may eat the occassional chicken nugget but not usually. However, she does eat yogurt, cheeses, etc so I don't feel that she is lacking in anything. I would not stress over it too much. I am positive that her tastes will change several times over the next few years before she finally settles into a "preferred" menu. If you are really concerned though, talk to her ped. My doc told us that for that for the first year, baby food is just for practice anyway, not really nutrition, since they get all they need from formula or breastmilk. Talk to your ped and good luck!

I'm with Kim, but try the Gerber blends - Vegetable Beef was a fav of my son's. 7 months old seems young for meat anyway.

Her doctor said to put her on meat.. I thought it was early also but I guess it should be introduced with veggies. Funny thing is she will eat meat if its from my plate and cut really tiny or hamburger etc. LOL

But thanks for the tips guys ^^

My son was eating everything except for seafood by the time he was 8 months and self-feeding.  He is now almost 2 and a great eater.  I love feeding time around my house it is a breeze and stress free.

I would suggest that you blend her meat with potatoes, carrots and spaghetti, like a soup type thing, and see if she likes that.  However, if she really does not want anything to do with it, don't force it and try again in a month or so.  Good luck.

My daughter won't eat meat either. And being a veggie lover myself I don't see any problems with it. Have you tried things like hardboiled egg? It's soft and mushy and the whites they can mush against the roof of their mouth quite easily. The yolks are nice and soft so there's no issues there. It'll give her some protein without that "yucky meat flavor". Also you can try things like beans. They are high in protein. My daughter so far prefers blackeyed peas and baby limas. When she was much younger I'd cook them until they were super soft and feed them to her 1 bean at a time. Now I can give her a spoonfull onto her tray and she'll finger feed them to herself. She loves it!

With the beans you can also cook them with a hamhock to add some meat into it. Another good thing is rice cooked in broth. Chicken broth is my daughters favorite but I do beef broth as well. It's not the same as the meat its self but she'll still get some of the meats nutritional value from it.
