Pains

Okay, has ANYONE felt this while breastfeeding. Sharp pains through your breast, that feel as if someone is stabbing a pin needle through your breast tissue?? But while you pump/nurse it doesn't bother you, but when you quit, it starts up again. It last for hours usually, if not all day, for a couple days, and the nipple on that breast is extremely sensitive. This has been going on since about when my daughter was around a month old. It happens on and off, more frequently now.  When it first happened, I called the doc, she took blood and sent me to radiology to get a sono on my breast, all came back normal. It only happens in my right breast, and it drives me nuts! Her nuse said it was probably my milk letting down/being released. I am not saying she doesn't know what she is talking about, but how can it be that? It never does it in my left, doesn't do it all the time, I just don't get it. When it happens, it causes me to be in so much pain that I am lying up in bed bawling OR holding onto my breast for dear life in some attempt of hope that it'll relieve it.

Once I had a horrible pain on one of my breasts, but it was because my son was sick.   He must have given the virus to me and it went through my breasts. I came down with a bad cold and fever.   I called my Doctor, and she told me to put a warm cloth on it, and that it could be a clogged duct.  The pain did not go away until about three days and after that, I have not had a problem.  I would have to say for you to contact a lactation consultant.  I hope that your pain goes away soon because you sound very uncomfortable.Cry

That sounds awful!  I second the lactation consultant idea.  If your doctor didn't figure it out and everything looks clear then maybe someone who is a true breastfeeding expert will have a clue.  I hope it clears up soon -- I can't imagine being in that much pain.

I had that a couple months ago. It ended up being a clogged duct in my case. It was soo painful to nurse on that side. I would definately talk to a lactation consultant.

I really do not think it is a clogged duct. It has been happening for like a month and a half. My breast would be completely drained, no hard spots or anything, and it'd still happen. I ended up in the ER last week, because the pain was worse than it had ever been and didn't stop, and of course, no one really checked me out or listened to me. My doctor was out on vacation, and none of the doctors in her building would see me, and any other doctors I called were out on vacation, as well.

This is still going on?  You should get another opinion, nag your doctor, something.  I hope it resolves soon, but keep us posted.

well that has happend to me, i asked my mommy about it and she said that its all normal pain that im going to feel, its like the milk comes down in lumps, and sometime when im feeding my son , the sharp pain will happend, but to me it soothing for him to draw because it helps to move it along, not like a breast pump, my doctor said to place a warm compress on it, if it gets bad, or cold one, but yes i know what you mean it does hurts feels like pins in my breast
