My spirited child

Hi, my name is Susan. I have a 5 year old (my middle child) who has been a handful from she was born. She is the life of the house, a comedian an actress and a head strong little girl! She negotiates everything she takes nothing at face value. She is a bright girl who picks up easily on topics that interest her, but if it doesn't interest her you can't get her to do it. She is gifted musically and can sing any note on the piano, both tones and semitones.

School however is BIG problem. she teacher wants her hearing checked and have her assessed.  I hate the idea of assessing and your child being labelled. She is such a strong willed child that she won't cooperate if she does not like you. I have started tutoring her at home twice a week. She seems to know all what the teacher says she doesn't know the only thing I find is that she guesses a lot. This is with language arts. Math she finishes in 2 seconds flat. she doesnot even count on her fingers like my older daughter. I realy don't know what to think. Is it the fear of saying the wrong thing that is causing her to be like this at school. She says the teacher gets mad at herwhen she does not understand. Any suggestions??

I went through a very simular situation. The one thing I learned is the dynamics between child and teacher is paramount. If feelings are intense and frustration is present you can bag that relationship.  My son endured frustration from his teacher for 6 months when we first moved him from Montessori to public. They had me convinced me that my son was just hopeless and to difficult to deal with. They didn't have much to go on since his grades were very high and placed him with a teacher that met his high energy. It worked out perfectly. This whole year he has not gotten into trouble even once! Energeticly they match and he has just thrived! Best of luck!
