Howdy!
I am actually in college for medical billing and coding right now...I know its not really the same thing, but close enough, right? I'm about 4 months from starting my career...actually, is it possible to have two careers? I also have a small business-oneof those wonderful work-from-home ooportunities....So tell me, how hard is this medical transcription? I was going to go for that, but the college I am goinng thru said they only take students for that particular class, that are already or have been in the medical field, so I went for MB&C, and I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference in the two....thanks!

Hello Rosalie,

I have never actually studied into the billing and coding side but I used to work at a pharmacy so I know a little about the codes that the insurances require. The difference between the two careers is Medical transcription is when...well whenever the Dr sees a patient he dicatates a report about it onto a tape. The transcriptionist's job is to turn that dicatation into a report, edit it for errors, and make sure it has correct punction, spelling, etc. It is very interesting for me. I finished my schooling for it and I am working through an internship program to get employed from home now...it is a great program the only thing is it requires about a 98% accuracy rate before they will employ you so it is a lot to work at especially when you are running around after a baby and keeping up with daily chores and errands. I am also looking for a job in the paper if there are any available positions in the meantime.

I am pretty sure the billing and coding side is learning the codes you need to get services and drugs covered and to communicate with insurances but you would know that much better than me.

It is great to have you and good luck!

Ya know, I really don't know what I am going to be doing....isn't that bad??!! I guess I don't really care, honestly, as long as it brings in money, pays the bills and my baby is taken care of, then thats all that matters to me! Since I also attend University of Phoenix Online(along with Penn Foster online) and just started my own business working from home, I don't think I'll have any trouble keeping busy....at home!
