I think it depends on the child.  Most of my friend's kids stopped napping at around three.  Another friend of mine, her 2 1/2 year old is fighting naps, but she still puts him down for a nap everyday.  My 2 1/2 year old still loves his nap.

We have been going through this same thing with my daughter lately. She is going to be 2 in May and she just fights a nap everyday. I know that she needs the sleep and she is not ready to give it up yet, but I don't know what else to do with her. It really gets old putting her back into bed a million times when she is supposed to be taking a nap.

Any suggestions?

My 3 yr old son still naps. It is part of our daily routine he has had since a baby so he knows nothing different.  I lay in his bed with him and read a book or two and he listens to soothing music and I get a couple of hours to get dinner started, clean or time for me. I also try to schedule our days so he is home for nap time. When we miss it because we are out too many times it is hard to get back into the routine. We also talk about what we are going to do when he wakes up..."nap first then ...(activity) and he is ready to sleep so he can move on to something else.

My son is 28 months and still takes one nap sometime after lunch, but some days he doesn't want to go down early. I had a friend whose son gave up naps around 3 years. So it does depend on the child and circumstances. You can try making all the conditions the same from day to day and make it as condusive to sleeping as possible, but if they are fighting it for days on end, maybe that's a sign they just need an earlier bedtime? or something? Good luck though. I hope Luke doesn't give up his naps for at least this year :-)

Im having the same problem my daughter is 29 months and we recently put her in a toddler bed and now that she has the freedom to get out she wont nap..most of the time I'll just let her go without one. But we have been really busy lately with playdates, parks, etc. She seems to only fall asleep in the stroller. Also she used to take 2 1/2 -3 hour naps so its hard to believe she doesnt need it..So lately it seems Im the one that needs to adjust to the new change
