I have 17 month old boy/girl twins.  It's hard to see how alert and mature my daughter is and then my son seems a little slow.  I have been told from the beginning that girls are faster than boys.  I have noticed in these later months that he does seem to follow about a month behind.  He seems to take longer but is fast when he does it.  I have been fortunate to have help from the beginning and I also quit working to stay home with them.  Has anyone else had issues like mine?  They just started holding their own bottle and they don't feed themselves.  I have also been told it 's because they are a little spoiled (with all the help I've had).  Any comments would ease my mind.

welcome!

I have boy/girl twins who just turned 3. When they were younger, my little girl seemed more advanced, but then they switched and my little boy seemed to advance quickly. They also have distinct personalities. One may be really good at one thing, while the other may be really good at something else. I think it's important to remember that they are individuals and everyone advances at their own paces. Now that they are 3, I definitely would not say one is more advanced than the other, but the each have their own things that they are better at. Hope this helps!

Welcome, Julie!

I have girl/girl 19 month old twins.  One of my girls is very verbal and says alot more words than the other. This makes people think that the other's not as bright at first. But, as Kristine says, they both have their strengths. My other girl is good with her hands and manipulates toys better.

I've had very little help with my twins. They've been holding their own sippy cups for awhile and are just now eating with spoons ( before they held the spoons, but ate with their hands!).  Maybe yours didn't see the need to learn to eat and drink for themselves until now, if , like you say, you had lots of helpers.  I wouldn't worry about it.  If your pediatrician thinks they're developmentally on target, then they're surely fine!

God bless

Hi there...I think all multiples experience a little delay.  I have b/g twins who are 3 1/2 now.  Both were in Early Intervention at 9 mos b/c they could not sit up on their own.  Soon they were both sitting up and quickly crawling/walking shortly thereafter.  My son is still a little delayed in speech and is currently in therapy at his pre-school.  I think the developmental milestones booklets should be taken with a grain of salt--especially when it comes to multiples.  As my father always said to me, it takes so much effort and energy for a woman's body to create a single child, let alone two children-- so there is bound to be something that gets delayed.  They will catch up, believe me!  My son is already speaking much better.  Remember, don't compare--the worst thing you can do.  Accept your kids for who they are, celebrate their strengths and do whatever you can to assist them in strengthening their less developed attributes!  AND yes, my kids ate with hands for a long time as well!  :)
