Hello everyone,
I am a month away (at the most) from my due date, and we still have not found a name that we are in love with for our son. I am starting to panic! We were thinking of having a name that starts with the letter "B," but I am open to suggestions if something else sounds great.
So, if anyone has a great name suggestion that is not ... real typical, or boring PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE I need it!!!
I remember hearing a name once, but I cannot remember what it was, duh! I think it was a business, or a financial institution, or maybe even a ritzy department store in ..... New York, I think. It seemed like it was two names together like Smith Barney, and the name that I liked did actually start with a "B." Does anyone know what this might be?
PLEASE I NEED HELP!!! |

I looked through some B names and the only one that I, myself, really liked was,
Baden. I like it better than Braden, which is popular right now. It is different.
Also, Baden in English means battle. To where Braden in English means broad or wide. I look at the meanings of the names not just the names. They both are of English backgrounds. Hope it helps. |

I have a 1 yr. old son, Liam. I was thinking of maybe naming our next son, if our next is a boy, Brennan, my great-grandmother's maiden name. We're also thinking of the name, Jasper. I also like the name Blaine, but that's my cousin's name, so we're not going to use that one. I think there's a store called Bergdorf in New York and of course there's Barney's. |

I like Brady, Bryce, and Brody for B names.
Also, Brenden and Brandon are nice too. Good luck, let us know what you decide.
Were you thinking of Barney? The store in NYC is called Barney's New York. |

I know exactly how you feel. Baby # 2 is due in one week and we have not yet decided for sure on a name.
For B names I like Braxton, Benson, Brennan, Brady, and Bryson.
If our baby is a boy, we will probably go with Rogan. I also really like Travis.
Hope that helps : ) Good luck to you! Let us know what you decide! |

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! We still haven't decided on a name, but I do like Braden and Bennett. Gosh, this is so hard :) Hopefully it will come to us when we see the baby.
I do like some of the other suggestions that you all gave me, but they don't work with my last name.
Thank you again so very much!!! |

All I would recommend is that you think long-term about the name (as well as the initials). Make sure the name is easy to spell and doesn't have multiple spellings. This is a school age child's nightmare. He will be forever correcting his teacher as well as other adults on the correct spelling of his name. Also, make sure is can't be shortened into something horrible. My name is Heather and people constantly called me "head" or "heath" and to make matters worse my initials were HED. I am a former teacher and I know how much of a burden it can be on a child to have a name with multiple spellings as well as going against the phonetic rules. Just a suggestion. I always tell moms that are thinking about names to go old school. |

HI Heather, I also am a Heather. And I was laughting when you where talking about the intials. Mine spell HIM. LOL....Everyone should get a good laught out of this one; when our daughter was born, I was torn between two names, one starting with a J and one starting with a K, I was also torn on whos last name she was going to get, dad's with a K or mine with an M. (since my middle name is a family name she was to recieve that). I gave the final first name decision to her dad and he choose the J name. Thank goodness because if she was to have recieved the K name, she would have defently gotten his last name....her initals would have KIM....his ex's name who is older children are with. NO WAY!!! Sorry I know that doesn't help with you chosing a name but should have been good for a laught.
I like many of the choise the others gave you. I have just recently herd Braxton and really liked it too. Goodluck. Have you decided on one yet? |

Hi Heather,
Well I always loved Benjamin, that's actually my son's name and a lot of people love it. The only thing is that a lot of older people seem to want to call him Benny... which drives me crazy.... we ask people to call him either Benjamin or Ben...even Benji would be Ok...but Benny doesn't sit well for me :D ..... Still it's a great name....and he looks like a Ben so it works for us.
Here are some Name suggestions for your son : I threw Bjarne (beeyarny) in there, because I know someone with the name and always thought it was kind of cool... It's Scandinavian version of Barney basically.
Brock, Baird, Blair, Beckett, Blake, Braedan, Brandt, Bailey, Blakeleigh, Bastian, Bjarne |

Vanessa is so right about the shorting of names. My husband is legal Anthony and we call him Tony. I met him later in life when that is what he decided to go by. It's funny becuase his brothers have a FIT when they hear us all calling him that. His parents are passed on and the I hear that his mom would have a fit if she knew he was going by Tony instead of Anthony. When we are around people you can always tell who knew him when he was younger and who met him in his adult life. Like Vanessa said...carfull choosing has to play a roll if you don't him called anything else. |

I have an Anthony, and he's simply Anthony. I found that if you introduce as the name you prefer, it sticks. Everyone will have nick-names thorughout life, but for now, no-one's even gone down the "tony" route..it hasn't been an issue. |

I certantly agree that you have to think about his school age and how other children might make fun of the name. My sister-in-law wanted to name my nephiew Isaac, which is a beautiful name, but my brother who's a school teacher immediately told her that some kids make call him "I suck" to tease him. So be careful about that.
About shortening his name, my son's name is Sebastian, I cannot even tell you how many times I've had to correct my very large family to call him Sebastian, instead of "Bastian" "Seba" "Sebas"...some of my younger nephiews wonder why I don't like the short name, I just have to tell them no to be lazy to say the full name. So far it's worked and every one calls him by his full name. But I have to keep telling them not to be lazy to say his name. It is a hazzle. Think about that one as well. |

It is a very difficult decision picking a name then like others have said you have to contemplate nicknames and such others may call you child. I am on the other end of that stick i have an 8 month old daughter that my husband and I named Abbey Eliza so now I have had numerous family and friends call her abigail which is not her name and i must remind them that it is simply Abbey or Abbey Eliza. SO I think whatever you name your child you will spend time correcting other well meaning people but ultimatly it is your decisionand they must respect that. good |

Hey Sonia,
That's so interesting we were going to call our son Sebastian, I love that name, but like you, we didn't want to face people trying to shorten it. Actually, we ran the name by our families before he was born, to see what they thought of it and they criticized us for picking a name that wasn't easy to shorten. When we named our son Benjamin and asked people to call him just that, it didn't change anything, people still want to call him something shorter... :D Yes it seems people are lazy. Seems you just can't win ! :D |

I think that children don't mind THAT much about spelling their name in school. My name is Tamara and I always had to spell it out simply because most people have never met a Tamara. Not to mention they always mispronounced it when they said it.
TAH-MAR-AH is how you REALLY say it some common misconceptions are.
TAH-MARE-AH, TAY-MER-AH and the unforgettable Tomorrow.
But I love having a different name and I don't mind much cuz I think having to spell it or correct people shouldn't be a problem when choosing a name. My daughter's name is Maiya and of course people wanna spell it like Maya but no I say, there's an " I " in there!!!! Going old school is boring. There's a million Tom, Dick, and Harry's in the world.. Spice it up it's 2009 and your child will most likely love that she doesn't have to be called "Ashley S." cuz there's 4 Ashley's in her class. |

Vanessa,
i was told that I need it to be ready for them to shorten the name and I warned them they weren't going to be allowed to do it. Believe me they say the short version and then look at me waiting for me to correct them, and I do correct them. I don't want them to create the habit and shorten such beautiful name ... I always tell them not to be lazy hehe.
Sorry Heather we totally got away from your original question...i think name choosing is always a fun contraversial issue. You'll have a thousand reasons why to name a child one way and a thousand why not to...just go with something that you feel happy about and be ready to accept the concequences...lol. |

Hey Heather
Just wanted to see how the name choosing is coming : )
Last Wednesday I had a baby boy. Before he was born, we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl. So for a boy I was pretty set on Rogan but once he was born he didn't look like a Rogan. So while looking at him, I said some names I like out loud but he didn't look like any of them. Then, all of a sudden it came to me : Brennan, that's what he looks like.
There is a chance you will need to see him before choosing a name : )
Since we went with a B name, I had to go back and see if it was on my list. It is : )
Let us know what you decide on. |

Hello everyone,
I had my son, and we named him Braiden. I always liked this name, but was not sure about using it since it seems pretty popular right now. Even when I went into labor, I was not set on a name. Then, once we saw him, the name just fit!!
Thank you all so much for your name suggestions :) |
