Mama to a shy girl

My lil girl is the sweetest ever w/ such a fun, bubbly, silly personality that no one outside of my mom, husband & myself gets to see because she is so shy & afraid of others. Hopeing to make friends around her age (14 months) that she canhave playdates w/ & friends that I can share with.

go to www.meetup.com and enter your city and state. or interest. I found some really great ones in my area.

I googled playgroups in your city and this is one link that I found

Wow! I checked the site out & the group in my town is by invite only & there are monthly dues. I think this is kinda ridiculous. I'll just keep looking elsewhere.

The reason for the invite is to protect the members and yourself. We are talking about our children here, so the groups have to have your information and typically they have you come to a public group playdate to verify that you are a mom with a child and not some pervert.

You should be able to click to request to join and then they arrange to invite you.

Also the dues for mine was $6 a year, so you might want to look further. Also check the left side of the screen and it will tell you of others in your area.

I have no problem w/ needing to be invited really but w/ the dues. The dues for the group are $15.00. Why do they ask for the dues? Where does the $ go? Right now I am only one in my home working so every dollar counts.

Hi Genell: I also looked into the same thing and I thought the same thing. I am under the understanding myslef that the money goes to pay for the web site link you found the group on.

I felt the same thing. I have been on a waiting list for about 3 months now. I find that ridiculos too. Another thing I found out from the group was this: My name did come up a week and a half ago and they e-mailed me the events for the next two weeks. I have a 13 month old and some of the events where things like, swimming at the Y, our daughter already takes swim lessons twice a week so I chose to skip that one of course, and then there where thngs like roller skating. Okay we will not attend that one either for obvious reasons. And the other dates conflicted with my work schedule. So guess what they did? Skiped me on by. They said that they feel if I can not make an event with the time frame they give then they need to move on to the next person. I am all for fairness, but come on, wotk is work.
