Garage Sale for CF?

I wanted to throw and idea out there, but I totally won't get my feelings hurt if no one jumps on it!  I plan on doing the CF Walk, but I always feel bad asking people for donations.  I know most of my friends don't have alot of extra money right now, and usually I would ask my immediate family/in-laws but they are already contributing to the CF Trivia Night.  So...I was wondering if anyone was interested in putting together a garage sale and then all of the proceeds could go to our team's total for the CF walk.  Another group that I am in did this last year and raised a of money!  They are actually doing it again this year so if no one is interested, I may jut donate some items there but since I'll be walking with The Mommy Movement, I thought it would be fun to do with you all.  I would be happy to have it here, or if anyone else would want to have it at their house that is fine too.  Anyone in the group who has some extra things to get rid of could price them and donate them to the sale, and then a group of us could run the sale some Saturday morning.  I always think that doing a garage sale with a group is fun. We could hang out, drink coffee, and sell some old junk- all for a good cause!  Anyone interested?  Also, don't feel like you have to help out on the actual sale date-  just donating items is important too!

That sounds like a good idea.  I can certainly find some things to donate.  I don't think that I will be able to join the walk but can help out in any way I can.

Sounds good to me!  I have a garage full of stuff!  Anyone have a truck?

I'm in, I know I have a lot of things that I can get rid of.

Glad that there is some interest!  The only thing is, I really don't want to do the sale myself...is anyone interested in helping that day...whenever that may be?

I can help if the date works.  Where are you going to do it?

Jen, I can definitely help with donations and the sale.

Jen! This is such a great idea!!! You. Are. Awesome!

I can definitely help on sale day as well as with donation, prep and... my husband just said he'd help those who need it get their stuff to the sale. He has a truck. :)

Afterwards, he and anyone else with a large car or truck could take the items that we didn't sell to a local Goodwill. Double Charity Action! (HOT!)

Let's do this! I'd be happy to get my butt in gear making signs, flyers, etc.

Andrea, glad your husband has a truck and offered to help move things!  And thanks for offering to help with signs and stuff.  I figure we could always post on craigslist too.  And I definitely like the idea of donating the rest of the things to Goodwill!  Nikki, we don't have a place yet, but I am happy to do it at my house.  I live off of Upper Bottom near Jungs Station and we get a fair amount of traffic passing by our neighborhood.  The only problem is that it might have to be more of a driveway sale than a garage sale because half of our garage is filled with lawnmowers/bikes/things we didn't know what to do with after the move.  Putting everything out on the driveway would work fine, except I wouldn't be able to have anyone drop anything off until a day or 2 before since we'd have to park my car out in the driveway.  And... there is always the possiblity of rain so I driveway sale wouldn't work for that.  I don't have experience with garage sales...if they are predicting rain is it possible to reschedule a couple of days in advance?   If someone else has a lot of garage space and a house that would be a good location for a garage sale or if anyone has a church or something that would let us use space that is fine with me.  As far as when to do it, some of us were talking in class today and we thought that waiting until mid to late April might be good so that we will have a better chance of getting nice weather.  Maybe one day after class we could all hang out, let the kiddos play, and chat about the garage sale so we could start to get organized.  Thanks everyone!!!  Sorry for rambling on and on in this post....

I'm always willing to let everyone come here to do the pow wow/planning.

Let me know a day!

I would be able to help too as long as it's a day I am not working.  Also I probably can find a few things to donate.

Laura, did you find out when your neighborhood garage sale is?  I totally understand if you don't want to have it at your house, though.  Just let us know!  Andrea, meeting at your house sounds great.  That way the kids can play in a confined area and we don't have to worry about them running off while we chat.  When is a good time for everyone?  Do we want to try to get together sometime in the next few weeks so we can get the ball rolling?  I know Liz will be out of town next week...what about the following 2 weeks??  Andrea, since this will be at your house, could you maybe pick a few days/times that work for you and then those of us who are planning to make it could take a quick vote or something to see which date works the best?  Sorry to step in here, but I just thought I'd try to get things moving along Smile

Sounds good. I'll figure out a few dates and we'll go from there. Most likely, we'll just do it after class one day. I figure that would be the easiest thing for most people.

I was just reading up on this... Wentzville has a HUGE garage sale April 18th. It's a city wide thing that draws in a LOT of traffic. I live in Wentzville and would be more then happy to open my garage/yard/driveway whatever you may need... the only downfall is we are leaving for Vacation late that morning. But I don't mind leaving you all with the mess haha. Wish I was just kidding. I could just have someone lock the door when you are done if anyone wants to go with this idea. Just throwing it out there! Let me know!!!!

How does next Thursday (a week from today) sound for meeting up to discuss and plan?

If this doesn't work, lemme know. Everyone is welcome to come here to talk about it.

Depending on the weather, we may be out of town for the day.   If this works for everyone else- great!  If not, are there any other days you are free?
