Hi I'm new to the "green" thing I guess. And unfortunately I don't live near any large health food stores :( and the small one I do live near can be pricey. So I've tried to do a ton of research and have had to be creative! I ebayed all the babies plastic toys and am replacing them with wood toys. Then I ebayed most of her clothes and slowly am replacing them with organic clothes. I got rid of just about all our beauty products, just today I said goodbye to my blush & eyeshadow, parabens! Kept the mascara for now, just not ready to go totally bare! But I only wear it when I go out, and am going to replace it when it runs out with an organic. We've vowed to eat all natural no processed junk. And organic when possible! My bathroom is looking more like my pantry with baking soda & vinegar for cleaning and for shampoo & rinse! Olive oil for body moisturizer, etc. I've replaced the papertowels with a drawer of old t-shirts cut in squares. I'm finally using all the pretty cloth napkins I have and stopped using paper napkins, I love this one! Dinner feels like a special occasion now. Cloth pads (bought them, haven't tried them yet) Been using cloth diapers for the baby for about 8 months now, I am a huge advocate for cloth diapers, and try to convince everyone I know, I think alot of people are intimidated and shouldn't be, just wish everyone could try them. My family goes by the dip don't dive philosophy, we're trying to slowly intergrate green into our lives rather than plunge in and go broke, and end up buying the wrong things, as there are quite a few products that call themselves natural but aren't. Luckily my husband and teenager are really into this too, we all just came together at the right time with it. The teen has a bit of trouble and I'm being patient with her and just explaining along the way how important our health is. For us green is first our health and then the planet, I think its easier to see the advantages that way. But of course both are important!!!! But this way its easier to explain to family and friends, I point out illnesses that are affecting our families and point out the possible toxins, etc. seems to help those who would argue about being trendy green or just not understanding it anyhow. Can't argue with good health! So that's what I've been up to! Hope to see some responses...I would love to talk to others interested in "green" and simple living, and share tips. Shauna |
