So we're new to our city and are trying to find a local church to join. It's been hard to visit a new place every week, but it's been healthy to remember what it's like to be a visitor. Especially, a visitor with a baby. Many of the services around here don't start until 10:45am, which is smack dab in the middle of Micah's current morning nap time. I want to attend a place that is doctrinally sound, not too big, not too small, and that has a secure purposeful nursery program set up. Micah is in the middle of separation anxiety as well, so I haven't left him in any of the nurseries, especially since we're at a new place every Sunday.
I guess what I want to leave you with is that if in your church, you have a visiting family with infants, please go out of your way to make them feel welcome. Tell them if it's okay to take their kid into the nursery and be with them. Or tell them it's fine to have them in the service. Show them where the nursery is and/or help them get to know the staff...just in general, go out of your way to put the mom and dad at ease. I hope to remember this as well, after we find our church home and have settled. |

Yes, it is hard to be on a quest for a new church. We recently went around our area when we were looking. I'm not sure where you are located, but we are on the Northeast side of Columubs and I would be happy to share some findings with you if you would like. Kristine

| HEY KELLY WE HAVE JUST WENT THROUGH THIS SIMILAR SITUATION WE MOVED AND FINALLY FOUND A CHURCH HOME. BUT WHAT REALLY HELPED ME OUT (WITH A 4 & 2 YR OLD THAT ARE NEVER AWAY FROM ME) IS THE INTERNET. I SCOPED OUT SEVERAL CHURCHS AND RESEARCHED ALL THE CHURCHES IN THE AREA AND EVEN CALLED SEVERAL CHURCHES TO SPEAK TO NURSEY AND TODDLER LEADERS. IT REALLY GAVE ME A HEADS UP OF WHAT TO EXPECT AND THINGS LIKE THAT. MY BEST WISHES TO YOU ON FINDING A CHURCH HOME! MELISSA |
