Need advice
Hi everyone I'm new here and i have a question. My Daughter whose 6 weeks old throws up every couple of days, I know it's not alot but i'm to a point that i'm scared to feed her. the doctor wasn't too concerned at her last visit because she isn't losing weight but I'm scared.....Can anyone help me shed some light on this.

Are you breastfeeding or bottle? It could be she is eating too much and doesn't realize she is full. If you are breastfeeding, then maybe time her and see how much she is actually getting! If she isn't losing wieght them she should be ok, unless the formula is making her sick!

I hate to tell you this, but some babies just spit up a lot. My daughter spit up constantly from one feeding to the next. As long as they put on weight it's not big deal. I tried everything to get her to stop from starting her on cereal early to switching formula (soy and loctose free) to propping her up while she slept. Nothing worked. We just got used to carrying bibs and nursing blankets with us everywhere. I even went as far as taking along extra clothes for me to weddings and stuff like that. Even starting her on solids didn't work. She finally just stopped! Thank goodness!!

My mom said that my sister would projectile "spit up" after every feeding. She would have to cup a blanket in her hand and have it ready to "catch" as soon as she took the bottle out. lol

Shaiyan spit up quite a bit at that young age. I think it's pretty normal. Their tummies are still trying to adjust and sometimes get too full. I was obsessed with getting her to burp! haha

My son used to spit up constantly. Once we started solid foods he slowed down a lot, then eventually stopped. His pediatrician said as long as he doesn't seem bothered by it and is gaining weight it is not a problem.

If your daughter is vomiting and not spitting up then it could be that she is not tolerating her formula well, or if you are breastfeeding, it could be something you are eating. Talk with her doctor about switching formula or cutting things out of your diet. Dairy and soy are the most likely things, so cut those out first.

I had the same problem with burping...my daughter would just suck in more air crying because I took the bottle out than if I had not tried to burp her at all.

My daughter would spit up all the time and sometimes it would seem like a whole bottle, it wasnt always right after she ate either. She had acid reflux real bad and had to be on med. They can do a barium swallow

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm using formula to feed her and it's soy, when she was born she could tolerate the regular formula so they changed it. were going to the doctors on thursday so I'll ask him his opinion but i'm sure he won't be too concerned. thanks again.

When my daughter used to spit up I switched to the Dr. Browns bottles and they worked excellent, no more spit ups. Good luck!!!

Hey Girls,

It looks like you all really covered it. It's a process of elimination, alergic to the formula, over eating, just spitting up naturally, etc. There is one thing that my pediatrition did tell me that WAS different than all of that. Determine if it's just spit up or projectile vomitting, or vomitting over spitting up. There is a rare disorder where the reflux doesn't develop propertly where it makes the babies vomit or projectile vomit. You need to determine the difference. Other than that, I think your baby is fine. We have what we call "water works" all the time all during the day. It's just a baby thing. Good luck. If you are still really concerned, call the pediatrition on the phone and ask about this reflux thing. I can't remember the specifics.

Sometimes there is just too much air sitting under the formula and when the burp comes up so does the formula! If the baby is not loosing weight and the doc isn't worried then I would just as well not worry either.

I know that my daughter did it all of the time. We even went to special formula and she still did it.

My daughter is 5 months old and has suffered from acid reflux since she was born. We use Doctor Brown bottles exclusively because of it. Spitting up can be a good indicator of reflux. The term "happy spitter" is used to describe a baby that has reflux, spits up, but isn't really bothered by it at all. If reflux is severe, the baby will be in pain and cry and sometimes even refuse to eat. There are tons of articles online and your pediatrician can talk to you about reflux. If your daughter isn't refusing food, crying and arching her back, then they probably won't suggest you do anything to help her. For severe reflux they prescribe Zantac and such to help. If it is reflux, you can try the Dr Brown bottles if possible, keep her upright for 20 minutes after she eats, and try feeding smaller amounts more frequently. Those things all worked for us. Good luck!!
