So I'm looking for some advice/ideas...I am the mommy of a 2 and 1/2 year old boy who has been attending this in-home daycare for about 7 months now and having an issue with him taking toys from other children, throwing toys and is disruptive at times during circle time. Some of you may be thinking this is normal for this age but apparently it's putting a strain on the daycare. It seems he acts up more during other children's drop-off times, so between the hours of 8 and 10am. I've talked to him about it, I've given him things to look forward to upon pick-up time (i.e. a favorite toy of his from home) and seeing as though he has a short attention span it's not really working. I guess I just thought “power of suggestion” might help. Now again, it's just at drop-off times and usually on Tuesday's and Wednesday's. I've done as much as doing some research on ADHD/ADH but how he's acting out really isn't what I've found. It's normal toddler behavior. At home he's not like how he is at daycare, granite he's the only child so he's not competing with anyone at home and my hubby and I encourage good behavior. He doesn't watch much TV and the programs he does watch is "kiddy" stuff. We are trying to do everything that we can to figure something out and am starting to come to a dead end. We are not with him during the day so it's hard to make assessments just off of what we hear from the daycare. HELP!!!
I think it's normal toddler behavior. I have an almost 3 yr old girl that I tried to put in day care but she's too clingy and won't stop crying when I leave so now we just stay at home. But in your case, maybe your son doesn't like his daycare? or the other children? My almost 5 yr old was just like your son--couldn't sit still during circle time, short attention span, but now he's used to his pre-school routine. I know he tries hard to not get a "yellow" card for misbehaving. He's so proud when he keeps his "green" card all day and his teacher says that this method is used at kindergartens. Another thing his teacher told me is maybe my son was bored--does the daycare have stimulating activities for him? Hope all goes well for you--
