Since my daughter was 5 weeks old, she is now 15 weeks she rarely if ever takes naps. I have spoken to her pederician and have read countless books but nothing I do seems to work. As I write this she has been up for over 12 hours having slept only 45 minutes in my husband's arms. This goes on for days at a time, can anyone offer me some advice or tips to help her and I? |

How is your daughter doing? Is she content or cranky? Is she still eating well and growing? My oldest godson did the same thing - he just didn't need much sleep then and, at 15, he still doesn't sleep much. If she is handling the lack of sleep well, you may just have to get used to it. If she's obviously needing to sleep more I would keep talking to the pediatrician. My oldest child couldn't sleep without something in his mouth, but I wasn't about to put into bed with a bottle, and he kept losing the pacifier. My mother-in-law found a pacifier that fit inside the ring of a bottle. He held the bottle and sucked the pacifier. the second child had to have a white noise maker to block out household sounds. And the doctor actually told me to give my third Benedryl - I didn't do that unless I was desperate. Let us know how it goes. |

Hi, thnak-you for your reply. My daughter most of the time is somewhat pleasant after being up for close to 8 hours but when we start nearing 10 to 12 hours of being up and multiple days ina row, she becomes extremely irratibale and cries at anything and everything, which causes me to become very upset because no matter what I do, I can't soothe her. We do have a white noise CD which does help and we will continue to use that as she gets older. Right now I believe she is going through a grow spurt and maybe that is why she is not in the mood to sleep. My pederician poo poos my concerns stating "she will sleep when she wants to sleep and you can't force her". My daughter does have a doctor's appointment tomorrow so I am going to bring this issue up again and ask about the benadryl. Thnaks again for the support and info. |

Watch out with the Benadryl soemtimes it can have the opposite effect. Once I wanted to buy for my kids during a long trip and the pediatrician advice against it. When the kids were young and were irritable I would put them in a warm bath and let them cry out their frustration and then they would fall asleep. I was always afraid that they longer they would go without sleep the more difficult it was going to be.
