My daughter is 9 1/2 months old and has started to refuse naps this past week. She is driving me crazy!!! She gets so overtired and becomes absolutely miserable which in turn makes me just as miserable. She has cut one tooth, but I see no more as of yet. She was fighting a cold, but from what I can tell that too has passed. Has anyone else dealt with this? I am just wondering if this is a phase.
I do know that at this age they go through this whole separation thing...which happens while she is awake, but I do not believe that has anything to do with naps. I will put her in her crib and she will lay in there for almost an hour playing before getting upset that she is in there. I even go as far as trying to hold her til she will fall asleep, which used to work, but that doesn't even work anymore.
She sleeps well through the night and only wakes in the middle of the night MAYBE once a week. Just curious if this is normal.
Thanks, Sandy |

Have you tried switching her nap from the morning to the afternoon or vice versa. I think at 9 1/2 months, your daughter should still be napping. It also might mean that her motor skills are starting to take off. I know when my son learned how to walk, it was harder to get him to take a nap. |

Like Heather has said, I heard that once they start really crawling/cruising it's difficult to get them to take a nap. They are so pumped about being able to do such cool stuff that they can't settle down. They have too much to do and to discover to take time for a nap. Not sure what you do, I am not quite there yet (I have a 8 month old). Good luck to all of us! |

my daughter is almost 9 mo. and she has decided that she doesnt like naps any more, but if i didnt put her down then it was nearly impossible for my husband and me in the evening. What i did that helped, is at the same time ( well as close to it as i can) i try and lay her down. I try not to put too many stimulating toys in the crib with her, cause she was not wanting to go to sleep. It worked for us, for the most part. every so often she will just cry for about 10 min and then be conked out after that. I know my friends daughter used to do the same thing, and her dr. told her to make sure she kept her in the crib for the same amount of time, and then she would know that it was at least rest time, even if she didnt sleep. you might want to ask your dr. about that. I dont know if that would work? hope you get it figured out i know a cranky baby at 6 pm is never any fun! good luck! |

My son was having difficulty napping too - I'm forever going online looking for tips, but then a friend told me to give him carbs before he's due to go to sleep, like potato etc. I also bought some Beechams nighttime cereal and mix it with the potato, it seems to make him more sleepy with his tummy full. I increase his feedings towards bedtime too, like he has his last feed (of the nighttime stuff and potato) only 2 hours after his dinner. He's 8 months old but he's very big for his age, has his 2 bottom teeth and his 2 top ones on the way out now, he also gets very congested when the teeth are coming thru but we put a menthol plug in unit in his room which helps out tons. Hope all this helps! |
