Hi Everyone!
This year, I plan on participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides Walk, and I was hoping that some of you would like to join me. The CF Foundation is committed to finding a new treatments and looking towards a cure for CF. This walk has personal importance to me, as my brother has CF. It's a terminal illness that affects the lungs (primarily), as well as the digestive system and intestines.
This walk is a fundraiser for the foundation, so if you decide to participate you will be asking for donations from friends and family. If you do not decide to participate, please consider this my official plea for your donation. :)
There are two walks that I'm debating between - the St. Peters walk is on May 2nd and is at none other than, Laurel Park! The St. Louis walk is on May 16th at Corondolet Park. (Beautiful park!) My thoughts are this: while the StP one is closer, the StL one would be a change of scenery... BUT if any of you would like to join me, I'll happily participate in whichever walk is best for the group.
Please let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions. I have a brochure that I will bring with me to class on Thursday that can provide some information. The website is included below to answer any additional questions.
Thanks for reading!

Awesome idea! I would definitely love to do the walk with you! I have actually been wanting to put more charity walk/runs on the calendar. They are so much fun, they support a great cause, and are a great thing for the whole family to do together. |

Oh yea and I vote for the STL walk since we are at Laurel all the time, but would definitely still do Laurel if it works better for the group :) |

Brookelyn and I would love to do the walk. I vote for the St. Louis one because I do the heart walk every year and it is on the 2nd. |

The May 16th one also sounds better to me as I work the other weekend. Sounds like it will be a good cause. |

Ok. New information about the Great Strides walk:
Yesterday, I met with the Director of Special Events for the CF Foundation. She helped to explain the walk more in-depth.
There is no set distance to what you walk. The walk is there as a part of the larger day. There are events and activities for all the families before and after the walk. Usually people picnic and just generally have a good time after the walk.
This sounds like a really fun day. I have brochures for each team member to use if they collect any donations in person. Registration can be done on the Great Strides website. Sign up for our team by searching for The Mommy Movement. Everyone is welcome to walk! My husband may be joining us as well.
I have set a team goal of $1500 and my own personal goal of $150. I hope everyone is able to join in the fun and help raise money for this great cause. It's on the calendar for May 16, feel free to check out the details there. |

Sounds good to me, too! Andrea, my BIL (Gabe's Dad) has CF. We are actually doing a Trivia Night with our family on April 17th if you are interested in that sort of thing. It is organized by a mom I know from a different playgroup who has a little boy with CF. If you, or anyone else is interested, I'll get you the details! I know the tables are already booking up quickly. |

Jen, I would LOVE info on the Trivia Night. Maybe some of the mommies would be interested in getting a table together. (I understand that you may already be involved in a table, tho.. )
It's amazing how many people know someone with CF. It really does affect more people that most realize. |

Trivia Night is Friday April 17th at 7pm at Quail Ridge which I think may be in Wentzville? It is 80 dollars for a table- 8 people per table. Money goes to the CF Foundation. Last year's was very well run, and we brought our own snacks, wine, etc. like you do for most trivia nights. There were also prizes and items for silent auction- not sure about this year. I'll get the organizer's email address to you so you can get your table reserved if you decide to. I don't really know how many tables are left- she said the are booking up somewhat quickly. I would love to do a table with this group, but my hubby and I already have a table with family... |

I completely understand.
One problem, I just realized, tho... this is the night before the Go! St. Louis 5K... I was going to run that as my first 5K, so I don't know if I'll be able to attend.. we'll just have to see.
Thanks for the info!

OK everyone - to register as a part of our team go here:
http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/AndreaLammle5921
Click "Join My Team" and register. It's that easy! I have brochures that you can use if you collect any cash/check donations - otherwise, just use the online resources that the foundation provides. We can reach our goal! I know it! |
