My oldest son brought some from his dad's house once. After he went back (when his dad "noticed" it), they used all sorts of nasty toxic things on my son and the house to get rid of them and nothing worked until they tried a vinegar rinse. Here, I just saturated infected heads with mayonnaise for 3 hours, wrapped in plastic wrap, and stuck knitted hats on them so they didn't take the whole thing off. During that time, I washed all bedding and pillows and quarantined all stuffed animals that may have been exposed that I couldn't wash. I also laid down towels on any surfaces that heads had been in contact with and left them there for about 3 days. After the mayo wrap had sat for 3 hours, we rinsed it off and then poured white vinegar on the heads. I then went through with a lice comb and combed out all the dead bodies and eggs. Just to be safe, I combed through everyone's heads with a vinegar soaked lice comb for about a week afterwords. It has now been about 2 months lice free....and completely non-toxic (and cheap!) to get it that way!
Now, whenever my son comes back from his dad's house, I check him for lice right away! |
