Our son is 2 years old and I have no desire to take him from the crib to a bed...I'm hoping he's in the crib for years to come!!!!! HA! I know he's safe and sound there and that makes me feel good. :)

I agree with you on that Lauren I feel that the crib is the safest place for my toddlers too. Plus we have a problem with our daughter who is 21mo old banging her head on her crib rails and on the doors when she is bored. I went in to check on her one night and found her banging her head on the crib rail and she had managed to get a bump so I had my husband turn her crib into a toddler bed but that did not work because she got out of it and couldnt get back in it so then we put the mattress on the floor but she didn't sleep in it she fell asleep on the floor so we knew that she had to sleep in her crib so my husband and I padded it and it has helped so much. I suggest not puting them in a toddler bed until they can talk.

My daughter is almost 21mnths and we are planning on switching her either this week or sometime soon. I want her to get used to the idea of not sleeping in her crib so when the baby is born it isn't a big issue. We are going to do the transition part of the crib instead of buying a toddler bed. Although I suppose we could wait a little longer.
I would like to just get her a day bed and then put one of those fold down sides on the outside of the bed so that she will stay in bed.

as long as you are not expecting another baby or your toddler is climbing out and will sleep well in his crib there is no reason to switch him from a crib to a bed my son started climbing out of his crib at 9 months so we used a crib tent until his sister was born when he was a year and a half them moved him to his fire truck toddler bed

i agree with jessie...if you dont need the crib for another baby and the child isnt climbing out (like im sure mine will do), the safest, most comfortable (and familiar) place for them is in their crib...i hope to keep isabella in the crib until she is at least two and a half or three...she is 13 months and sleeps in my room (sometimes in a crib; sometimes in my bed) currently until we get a house with another bedroom and i feel more comfortable with her in another room...i've found the safest place for her is in her crib...she has already tried to get off my bed while i was sleeping to play in the floor

Well, when my son was about 1 1/2 he tried to climb out of his crib and actually fell out. It scared us so much and luckily he did not get hurt, but if we would have had wood floors I don't even want to think about it. We switched him that weekend. He was so proud to finally be a big boy, and he loved sleeping in it too. I think he actually slept better because it was bigger.
