My parents gave me an allowance but I was expected to help around the house and do what I was asked. Occasionally they would give me extra money if I did something really out of the ordinary but usually it was just the allowance. If I ran out before the next week, then I would just have to wait.

I don't pay them for chores yet because they are too young but I plan on paying them probaly 5.00 a week each for chores and putting away 5.00 a week for them too so they will have money when they want to buy something big in the future like a car or make house payments. When I was little my grandparents gave me 3.00 every two weeks for chores I thought it was great when I was little. When they hit their teens I will give them 20.00 a week so they can go to movies, bowling or to the mall with their friends.

Chores are just part of being in the family. I give my kids money, but not for chores. Chores are just expected to be done so they are.

I expected my kids to help around the house, it is how they learn a good work ethic.
