I said I am an independent, b/c it really depends on the candidates who are running for office. However, I usually tend to agree with the policies of Democrats.
My father and I recently had a discussion regarding politics, and he said he is voting for McCain, although he doesnt care much for either candidate. My father is a middle class working man and doesnt like people who take advantage of 'the system'. I, on the other hand am a single mother of 4 children, who works full time and do what I can to get by.
Basically Republicans appeal to middle to upper class, and Democrats appeal to less than middle class citizens.

I started as being an independent, after 8 years of Bush I don't think in my lifetime I could ever vote for a Republican.

I will vote for president once I find a candidate that can stand on their platform alone and not what bs they can dredge up about another. We teach our children to live by the golden rule, shouldn't our President and candidates be held to it too?!

I'm a demo with independent tendencies. I would love for Ralph Nader to win, but that is not realistic. I would like to see a president who is not afraid of change and will work for the masses not money

I'm an independent but I think to say that you could never vote republican based on Bush is, well, about the most stereotypical comment I've heard in a while. How can you call yourself an independent when the whole basis of the word means you vote for who you want, who's most qualified, who's got the ideas closest to yours, not who's dem or rep. In fact, I think I'll never vote for a democrat because Bill Clinton had sex with an intern. As for not voting at all, that's your right, but if you're waiting for the Messiah to stand up on the platform, you won't be voting for a while. I think you have to choose the lesser of two evils and let your opinion be heard, even if it's not very enthusiastic.

I am a Republican all the way! Get the government out of my way and let me like my life! This country does not need the government to support them. We are adults and it is time we stop having the gov fill the roll of our mommies, wiping our noises and bottoms!
I am also very much against killing babies and will not vote for a person who will allow that to be legal.

Again, abortion IS legal in the US - it's the woman's right to choose. That being said, I'm not sure I could ever have an abortion, and I never have before, but I'm thankful for the right to choose.
Anyway, I'm a democrat.
I'm pro-union
Pro-choice
Pro-gay marriage (by state, not church)
ETC ETC ETC...

I never vote Republican, but I don't vote Democrat very often either. I frequently go for third party candidates and if there isn't ANYONE I like on a ticket, I skip that part.

I am Republican because I believe in living my own life and not having a government to tell me how to run it. I think state governments should have more power than the US government. I am also pro-life, anti-gay marriage, believe in God, don't believe corporations are evil, and anti-welfare.

I agree with Beth, but I have different opinions about gay marriage. I think it should be left up to the state. I think people who are gay have just as much love to share as people who are straight. They have a right to be happy, too. As far as raising children, I think it's something we are going to have to learn to tolerate. Personally, I'd rather see a same-sex couple nurture and love a child in need (an adopted child, for example) instead of a straight couple neglect or beat their child or flush an unwanted baby down a toilet. And for those parents who dread having to explain to their 5 year old why little Johnny has two mommies, get over it. Tell your 5 year old that his mommies love him very much and take care of him and that's all that matters.
