I Answered home care, but i also think it depends on how old the child is. i think up to two years hom care is the best, but after that really making sure they are socilzed in a school environment so they are ready for the real school. I think Infants need more one on one attention that you would get at home care than in a large daycare.
I say stay home parent BUT I think any are ok. I was in day care when I was a kid BUT they are different now....too many crazy people out there now. BUT in Jan I will be looking for a job at a day care that I can take my son to work with me, then I'd get to know who was watching him, he'd have kids to play with and I'd get some extra cash on the side. I do love it when my family baby sits because he gets to spend time with them...but they live so far off it doesn't happen much.
I think with a parent is best because no one can love your child as much as you do.
However, kids in Day care do usally learn to talk sooner and probably develop socially earlier than those who are at home with Mom or Dad most days.
I'm lucky to only have to work 3 days a week. Our son is watched these 3 days by my Mom or my MIL...it's perfect.

I think that a Stay at home parent is best but if both have to work then definitely a relative. I don't trust strangers with my children so I hope that I never have to use a day care service.
I say stay at home parent. I am a SAHM. I hate the image people have about us. They think we are lazy and don't want to work. Well thats not true. I told my husband from the get go that if I cant stay home with our kids then I didn't want to have any. My son is very smart and I work with him daily as if he was in a pre school environment. He is now 2 but he knew his colors and could count to 10 by the age of 1 1/2. He can also draw his shapes. I don't think its that good if you just stay at home with them any don't interact with them. If thats the case then send them to day care so they can get attention and actually learn stuff.
