I think that kids that go to a christian school are too sheltered, When they get out into the real world they won't know what to expect or do about things that happen.

It's not necessary...Kids should be exposed to all kinds of other kids (i.e kids of all religions)...generally, public schools do not even talk about religion anyway, so the fear of a child wanting to stray from his or her faith is unwarranted.

It is the parent's job to educate their own child about their faith and take them to church/Sunday school/CCC..whatever.

I did go to a christian school. By the time my parents put me in public school I new I was behind the other kids. It feels good that I have God in my life. But God didn't help me help me with my reading or math. Being a mother my self now, I'm going with pubic schools. Kids should be exposed to more real life education. I feel that I can always take them to church every Sunday. Teach them at home. Sunday school was fun and very helpful when I was a child. I loved going. I will be putting my kids in Sunday school also.

The Christian School in my neighborhood has the highest reading level in town and is regarded as one of the best private schools. Its just a plus that they get to learn the Word of God too. But yes, some are too sheltered. That is why I think we have to teach our kids that God is everywhere and to use the values that our beliefs teach us in our every day life. Not just at church

I've had the best of both worlds, both Christian schools and public schools. I went to St. Mary's from 1-5th grade and while it was a very nice school it was very strict and it was a lot of work. I would have 2 + hours of school work a night and 6 tests a week. and I was in elementary school. We did learn about God and Jesus and we went to church every wednesday for 2 hours during school. But you can take your children to the same church we went to every wednesday on Sundays during mass. Also I don't think if you’re a christian that you must go to a christian school. It's also hard on you financially, and if you’re dead set on your child going to school to learn about God there’s always Sunday school. You learn the same things and it’s a lot cheaper!

A child shouldn't HAVE to learn about both worlds until they are old enough to understand them. It is our duty as Christian parents to shelter them until they are ready to fly. Putting your child in a secular situation at such a young age is dangerous. A school day is long. Too long to be away from parents and a strong foundation - especially if it is a public school. So if that is someone's excuse - exposing their children - then it's a really lousy one.

That being said, if parents have prayed about putting their children in public school, and feel convicted to do so, then it is best that they do that. We all have different paths, and different ways of serving God, even at a young age.

I am in favor of any private/charter/Christian/Jewish school that is strong academically. My husband & his brother went to Christian school for 8 yrs (basement of a church with only 20 students total). They began in public school, but were harassed for being part Asian in a mostly Caucasian population. The Christian school didn't offer 11th & 12th grade so they went to the public high school. The Senior class included 300+ students - guess who the valedictorians were? Guess who then went on to essentially Ivy League educations? ...My husband and brother (1 yr apart). Our public schools in general lack accountability - students and parents must be held to higher standards (reflection of America today).

I went to 6 different schools growing up: private school, private academy, homeschool, and public school. I will say that those of us from Christian schools are not as sheltered as some might think. The things that happen in public schools happen in Christian schools too, you just don't hear about it a lot. I was homeschooled and loved it and wished I could have continued since it was better for me in the long run, but many companies did not and still don't accept a high school diploma from a home school. Many colleges don't either and it is frustrating because I've known a lot of homeschoolers and they were stronger in their faith and much more knowledgeable than those kids from public school, but I've also known a few public schoolers that were very strong in their faith and very smart. So it shouldn't matter where kids go to school as long as they are getting the education they require.

I think homeschooling is best. But interaction in the secular world will be expressed. They will be good examples, God willing.

It is up to the parents. Kids are going to form their own opinions and they are going to be who they are. They should learn to make great choices no matter who is around them.

This subject is particularly familiar subject because My husband and I have been trying to make this decision. I do belive that a more sheltered environment might be beneficial to our son but who has the money for that in this economy? I can teach him what he needs to know about the bible and God but I cant protect him from the things that he may be taught by other kids in school. I guess I will just have to ask God to protect him and guide his steps and trust that God will protect him when I cant!
