Our son's ped told us that he recommends that we wait until he is five before taking him to a dentist.

I think you should start taking them as early as 1. They can just get the routine feeling of seeing the dental chair, office and staff. That way by the time they ready themselves they will be comfortable for cleanings, exam and maybe fillings. I'm a recent dental assistant and they kids who where seen early and frequent tolerated and cooperated alot better.

my children are both under two so neither of them have had cavities yet.
