My son Anthony is 19 months old, and has walked since he was 10 months old. When he gets excited, which is quite often, he walks/runs on his tippie-toes. Well, I got a bulletin from babycenter.com today in my inbox titled "red flags for developmental/motor delays" (or something to that effect). One of the things listed was toe-walking, so I read on. What I read scared me to death. It said that this can be a sign of autism, CP, poor muscle developement, etc....horrible to read, as you can imagine. Anthony is such a great climber, is right on track verbally, and is socially age-appropriate, so I wasn't 100% freaked out, but I called the pediatrician anyway to be sure. She told me that toe-walking is very common for toddlers, and that I have NOTHING to worry about at all, and everything is just fine. Needless to say I'm a little miffed by the wording of the article, and wanted to let you all know what my pedi said in case you read something similiar. Sometimes these websites need to keep in mind that parents, especially first-time parents, scare easily when it comes to their pride and joy. Anyway, do any of you have stories of toe-walking or have toe-walkers yourselves? Anthony will walk on his whole foot sometimes, but often on his toes...something I can once again think is adorable knowing that he's ok. :)

My son walks on his toes and so I tell him not to and sometimes he listen. But when I heard that toe walking is a sign of autism, I searched on the internet and also found that toe walking is common in toddlers and that they usually stop toe walking around three years.

my son will be three this month and he almost exclusively walks on his toes, I've read the same... that it's pretty common, but that for some toddlers it becomes a habbit hard to break. My son is totally on track developmentaly, but from walking on his toes so much, the Dr. said that his muscle does feel somewhat tight when she flexed his foot back. I tell my little boy to walk right about 100 times a day, and he does, but he has to do it consiously, otherwise he automaticaly goes right back on his toes. It actually bothers me to see him walk like that, I wish I could see it as cute. He is getting better, but I'm tired of reminding him everyday to walk right.

my daughter only does it when she's hyper & silly. We call her our little Ballerina. But when she's all-business, looking for toys, leaves, flowers, or going somewhere, she walks normally.

My oldest DD did when she was that age but my youngest doesn't. I thought it might have been from her having a clubfoot or something since I use to do the same thing and I had clubfeet but then I heard other little one's did it. :)

my son is almost two and walks on his toes sometimes. i think it is normal for a child to test (and have fun with) what there bodies are capable of doing. i myself used to walk on my toes sometimes when i was a kid at different ages,(just because.) so,(unless a child constantly walks like this, i dont see that there is anything wrong with toe walking.)

My son doesn't necessarily walk on his toes as much as he tries to run. However I think it is because he gets ahead of himself more than anything. He also stands on his tip-toes when throwing a really good fit more to show how big he is it's actually very hard not to laugh when he does it.
