I know that juice is given to babies and toddlers often, however when I was a new Mommy, a trusted friend told me that her 2 daughters were never given juice because of the sugar content. The more I looked into the subject, the more I learned just how right she was. Most juice has a lot of sugar, and the 100% juices can lead to upset stomach's in babies. Milk and water only for my little one. |

I couldn't answer this question because while I don't give my 10 month old any juice, I do give my almost 4 year old juice on occasion and have been doing so since he was around 1 1/2 years old. I've always watered it down and still do. I also don't give it to him every day. It has been useful when he's been constipated as pear or prune juice can help with that. I agree that milk and water are better, but I think that it's okay for toddlers to have it on occassion. |

I agree with the occasional juice. I give my daugther watered down orange juice because I think that it boosts your immune system but other fruit juices I don't give her. She loves her fruit and gets plenty of it throughout the day and so I don't think she really needs fruit juice. |

my kids drink juice, 100%, 10%, whatever. they are fine. i am more concerned about artificial sweetners and caffeine intake than sugar intake. mostly, given the choice, they tend to choose milk or water anyways. so the 'juice' intake is maybe 2-3 times per week. no big deal for us. |

My son has been having juice from 4 1/2 months. He loves it! Plus sugar is not completely bad, the body does need some sugars and the vitamin C and other vitamins do wonders for his resistance and development. I stick to 100 % juice, and as he grew older introduced him to numerous fresh fruits which he also loves. Everything has its place in moderation. |

Up until my little one was 6 months old I was having to put kaero syrup in her bottles in order to keep her bowel movements moving. She was always on the heftier side of the weight chart because of it. I asked the head nurse at my pediatrician's office, and she suggested I start giving her some apple juice rather than the syrup. So every day my little one gets one 3-4 oz bottle of Gerber apple juice. Now her bowels are regular, and she has slimmed out considerably. Now she is on the smaller side of the weight chart, but she eats like a horse still! |

I actually make most of my own juice so I can put in all the fruits and veggies I want and my son loves it! If by chance I can't make fresh juice that day he only gets 100 % juice and I cut it with approx another full cup of water so it's not so hard on the teeth . |

I didn't vote on this because I think there should really be a third option of occasionally giving your child juice. I do not give my child juice every day. Only on occasion. But typically I would prefer to just give them the actual fruit itself instead of the juice. However, I don't believe that juice is bad for children. Complex sugars that you find in 100% juice are not bad for you plus the vitamins that are in the juice can be helpful to your childs immune system. That is why I give my kids Apple Juice when they are sick. It is only bad when you give them only juice all the time. |

I give my daughter juice as a treat but I water it down a little and most of the time it is white grape which I read is better than apple for babies who were caulicie as new borns. But if she is having a hard time with poopy diapers than I will give her slittly watered down apple juice or 1table spoon caro syrup to 4oz of water - she loves it. If I give to her every then she won't drink her milk or water. |

I give juice to my son, BUT its only a tiny bit of the baby juice(its already somewhat watered down) and I pour about 2oz juice and 6oz water in a sippy cup and he loves it. I mean yea its mainly water but it does have a tiny bit of flavor in it(I had to test it to be sure the right mixture). He only gets juice at lunch time and after dinner when we are waiting on daddy to get home from work. He mainly just slobbers it down the front of himself. But if its not juice its just plain ol water....but of course he has his formula and baby food but juice is just a filler |

I think it's very important for a child to like water. My children normally get milk and water, but of course they get water down juice every once in a while. If you ask them if they want juice or water, they pick water over juice most of the time! I don't think they should depend on juice or get it everyday, that's a little much in my personal opionion, but everyone is different. Of course you have to factor in those medical issues as well. |

I don't give my daughter who is almost 17months any sugar filled juices. Her doctor says it will do nothing for her. It's strictly100% a treat. It wont harm her, however too much of anything can. Also if you don't brush there teeth the sugar is very damaging! Instead of all that sugar filled fruit juice the only juice I will ever give her is V-Fusion from V8 it’s vegetable juice that has been covered up with the taste of fruit. She loves it! And I love that she’s getting her full servings of the veggies and fruits she needs! Everyone should give the tropical orange V- Fusion V8 Juice a try! (they also have other flavors!!) |

My oldest(25 months) loves juice and if given the choice would strictly drink that. I make sure that he drinks milk at lunch and/or dinner. He also eats cereal usually cherrios or cinnamon harvet by kashi with milk every morning for breakfast. You may find this odd but the juice of choice is cranberry. While I was pregnant with my second I drank it everday to help keep me regular. My son would come over and want to drink out of my cup because he wanted whatever mommy had. So now he drinks 100% cranberry juice(and mixtures of cranberry and other juices). I can count on one hand the number of times that he has been sick since he was born. When he does get a cold he recovers very quickly.
My second child(10 months) on the other hand does not like juice yet. I keep offering it to him hoping that he will acquire a taste for it. He does not have regular bowel movements and I really feel that drinking some juice would help him. |

I'm blessed to have my little girl drink WHATEVER I give her, she's having a hard time with drinking whole cool milk out of her sippy cup but I think she's coming around. My pediatrician told me at her 12 month check up to up her juice intake to 8oz. now from 4oz. She was breastfed up until she was 7 months and then started having constipation problems so we had to use reinforcements. I do think the more you give them to try out, the less pickier they'll be when they get older and more calm you'll be to have a good drinker/eater. |

My daughter had gotten so constipated to the point that her tummy was hard as a rock and she was screaming in pain (found out that she can't tolerate similac). My pediatrician told me to give her baby pear or baby prune juice. I diluted 2 oz with 2 oz of water each time. It worked and unclogged her. I did notice how much sugar is in the little four oz bottles. I decided that she will only get juice if she is constipated, otherwise milk and water only for my little one. |

Wither you give your child 100% juice or if you give them the actual fruit your giving them sugar. Fruit it self has it's own natural sugar. When juices say no added sugar that's just letting you know they haven't added any extras into. Juice is good for your kids, it has the vitamins they need. When it comes to the juices that have acid like apple juice or orange juice I just simply dilute it so it's easy on there stomach. |

MY daughter has one-two cups of juice almost everyday but I add lots of water more water than juice bc it is really sugary and my baby also drinks water and milk and some of the stage two vanilla formula. I dont think it that bad to give babies juice as long as you have more water than juice, and if you they used to having the juice watered down when they are babies they will not know the difference and will contunie to drink it like that when they get older. |

I dont see the need to give juice, if you give your baby fruits. The actual fruit, has juice/water already in it. I give my baby (who's now 13 months) actual fruit to munch on. Grapes, oranges, apples, pears, etc. I put it in one of those things where it looks like a sock and you put the fruit in there so the baby can chew/gnaw on it without choking. That way they dont get all the added stuff that come in juices -- high fructose corn syrup, added sugars, etc. What's better than giving real fruits?? |

I drink milk or water and lunch and dinner and so does she. During the day it varies as to what we're all feeling like. She's healthy and growing like a weed, but not overweight. I didn't give her juice until she over a year old though. Except the occasional juice to help with constipation, which it did! |

My daughter gets watered down juice during the day & milk with her meals and before bed at night. There is juice you can buy that has 50% of the sugar (Such as Mott's for Tott's). We still water it down to 1/3 juice. You just have to read the labels and be cognizant. Some would say too much milk is not good either. Of course, there is no argument against water as long as you make sure they are getting all of their vitamins and minerals. I don't think anything is that bad as long as it is in moderation. Now, would I give my 18 month old soda? Absolutely not. oh...and just to argue against what some say about developing habits...I have a 17 yr old who drank water all the time as a baby. Now he barely drinks it. Eventually, they are exposed to a variety of things and will choose on their own. So, keeping juice away from a baby will not necessarily prevent them from developing a sweet tooth. |
