We did not get a seat for my daughter when we went on vacation last Novemeber. She was about 14 months at the time and her father didn't think she would need one. I would recommend getting one, it would have been nice for me to have a break from holding her for two hours. Most airlines will offer half price for babies and I would have rather had her own car seat while we were there.

I think that it's stupid to spend the money on a seat for your child because they will probably wanna be held the entire flight

True Michelle, My daughter and I took a flight when she was 6 months old. I held her most of the time and she set in the empty seat the rest of the time. The airlines charge you for the extra seat anyway. Why not save the money on important things like pampers.

its free for them under the age of two as long as they stay on your lap. but its required that they have a seat over the age of two. so save the money for when the are above two. beside when i went on a plain with my son they people next to me didnt want to sit next to a baby and requested to be moved ASAP (my son slept the whole way didnt make a noise even when he was awake) so i had an extra set cause they wanted to move it was nice. i didnt have to pay for it either.

We just flew to Kansas City and I didn't buy a carseat for Calista (she was 13 months at the time). But the flight was only a little over an hour and was during her "sleep time" so it wasn't too bad.

We havn't flown anywhere yet. When we do we'll have to pay for a seat, he's almost 2.

We have flown three times with Michael. Each time he would rather ride in our laps than sit on his own. But he will be 2 in January, so that will change unfortunately.

I flew to phoenix with my little girl when she was 19 months old and bought her a seat and it was WAY WORTH IT. Of course, my girl doesn't like to be held all that much so holding her on my lap for a 2 1/2 hour (full) flight would have been a nightmare!!!

My son and I flew to Florida to visit my mom and I bought him a seat. He was 16 mths old at the time but he is a very tall boy. Right now he is 26 mths and he is over 3 ft tall. I found it more comfortable for him, he was able to sit in his car seat and watch his video's on my laptop and he had a great time. The year before I flew down with my husband and he was only 9 mths old and he sat on our laps with a flight vest that attached him to either one of our seat belts. I found it well worth the money spent for his comfort and my peace of mind heaven forbid there was an accident in the plane I thought he would be safer in is car seat.

My one year old would never have sat in his own seat for more than 5 minutes anyway.

As the wife of an airline pilot, it is much safer to have them in a car seat installed into the airplane seat. Pilots refer to children not in car seats as "lap darts". If there was any bad turbulence or if something catastrophic would happen, your child is much more likely to survive if in a car seat. There was a plane crash in South Dakota several years ago and they found children in the over head bins dead that weren't in car seats. The ones in car seats were fine. Even in small airplanes they should be in car seats. Recently a toddler survived a small plane crash while other passengers died. Something to think about.

I have flown across the country several times with my son. The last time we flew he was 9 months old and it was the first time I had anybody else fly with me. We don't buy a seat but it is nice when we end up with an open one next to us. Even at half price the seats are still expensive for a cross country flight.

It hasn't been in issue since my husband and I have sworn off airports and love road trips. Piper doesn't seem to mind them either just as long as there is Veggie Tales or Curious George on her portable DVD player.

flying trans-atlantic to Prague, we 'bought' a bassinet seat for our 4 month old. It was only taxes or a small fee.. nothing to shake a stick at. When I flew to my parents (from PA to AR) my 12 month old hung out with me and we wandered the aisles or she played at my feet (I requested a seat by the bulkhead to have extra leg room for just that reason).

We flew with my first now 2, 3 times and didn't pay for a seat. When he was younger than 1 it wasn't an issue the last flight when he was 18 month was more of a challenge because he wanted to move around a lot more. I agree with Rachel get near the bulkhead for the extra room.
