My son only took the pacifer for like five minutes just to calm himself down and then he would spit it out. But I see that my best friend (who has two girls) the oldest one is going to be 4 in a couple of weeks and she still takes the pacifer and I told myself that I did not want to put myself through the headache of trying to break him of it. I just think that kids would stuck on a pacifer til their three is stupid and looks it to. Sorry if I have offended anyone parents. |

Neither of my children took to pacifiers(THANK GOD!!!), but my oldest does suck on her pointer finger and she is going to be turning 3 in a few weks and it just bugs me that she sucks on her finger. She also took to a baby doll that was handed down ot her which is basically her life. As far as my youngest, she hasnt taken to a pacifier, finger, OR a toy/blankie and hope it stays that way! |

PJ had a pacifier till he was 11 months. Weaning him was easy, we were liberal with it so at 11 months he wanted it less so we stopped giving it to him. No problems. It's improtant for babies to have them to suck on (we didn't want him sucking when he's older and much less approripate) and great for figureing out if he was hungery. No milk comes out so he spits it out and that's how I knew to feed him or he would take it out of his mouth and look at it like why is nothing coming out and sure enough, everytime he was hungery. Now he's 18 months and hardly sucks on his fingers or anything. |

I really didn't want to give him one- I tried it once and he didn't like it (thank God) and we just never gave him one again. I also don't plan to give my second child a pacifier when he/she (don't know what I'm having yet) is born. |

My daughter took one for a little while then refused them all together. Now, she sucks her thumb or chews on the pacifier ...I think it helps with her teething. |

We gave all three of our children a pacifier, in fact we encouraged it from birth. It was nice to have something to help soothe them with in between feedings and during times when they were fussy or teething. We didn't have too much trouble getting rid of them. I believe they were around two when we told the pacifier "bye bye". Our children are now 21, 18 and 17. |

My oldest took the pacifier, but my baby likes his thumb better. He will take it when he gets really fussy, and needs something to calm him down so he can fall asleep. But he's not glued to it like my oldest. However, my oldest was weaned of it by 18 months. |

And to this I think I regret, although I have tried to give it to her when she was a baby, she always spit it right back out, and now 2 years later sucks her thumb which we have been trying to get her to stop. |

My daughter would use one when she was tiny if you held it for her and now she is 8 months and LUVS her Binky. Frankly, I love her Binky, too and am cool with her using if for many more months.
Also, some folks tell all the horror stories about babies having trouble with breastfeeding if they us a binky. Well, RoseMarie has never had a drop of formula. I nurse here when we are together, she gets bottles while at DayCare, and uses a binky all the time. We have never had any trouble with nipple confusion. She will suck anything :) |

My daughter will take one only once in a while. She usually just spits it out abt every 10 seconds. She usually sucks on two fingers. She is 8 months old. I think I would rather have her suck on a passy than on her fingers but...she will only sometimes take it. Yeah I hate it when I see 4 or 5 year old sucking on a binkie too! Little too old I think. It just looks silly. |

Nap & bedtime only, when we're at home. I do let her have it in the car or stroller sometimes, but only so she's happy while I get errands or exercise done. I don't like her to have it when she's just hanging around playing, because I don't want it to interfere with her learning to speak.

My son is only 4 1/2 months and has never liked the passy, I'm glad because I didn't want to have to break him of it, but was worried about SIDS BUT since he started teething and got his first 2 teeth he chews and sucks on his hand and thumb, I hope I can break him of this before he turns 2 because I don't want his teeth to be all messed up |

my daughter took one the night she was born - it was the only was we could get more that 1 hour of sleep at a time. It's not something she has to have. We give it to her when we put her to bed, when she is teething and we keep one in the carseat. She is now 12 1/2 months old and when she gets up from her naps or in the morning she takes it out and puts it in the crib till next time. I don't know when we will take it from her permantly. |

We gave my son one at about 2 weeks and he used it often until about 9months. Then I started only letting him have it in the car and while sleeping. This lasted longer than I antisipated due to a lot of life changes. My husband got annoyed with it though, so finally at about 18months he sat my son on his lap with the 3 remaining binks and a pair of sissors and cut the nipple of and said NO MORE! My son cryed for a minute, we gave him a toy, and he's been fine since, never wanting one or taking them from others! When our next child comes I intend to give it to him less often and hopefullt break him sooner, but we'll see. |

My son... never liked it, and never had one. My daughter LOVED it, and it became her favorite item, even named it Bubby. It was her way of soothing herself if she was upset. At the age of two, we told her the dentist said she was a big girl now, and that Bubbies wouldn't work anymore.... then I snipped a small x in the end of them and the suction they provided went away.. so she thought they didn't work.. and she threw them in the trash herself! |

Not one of my 3 kiddos took a pacifier. But my oldest started sucking her thumb right before she turned 1- months after that reflex is supposed to be gone and you're supposed to be in the clear for that stuff! :P She's going to be 7 in July- and she still sucks her pointer finger on occasion. She switched to her finger once a year ago because she had cut her thumb, and then never went back to the thumb. It's very rare that she still does, but when she's very, very sleepy- like the occasional Friday night when we let the kids stay up pretty late with us- she'll start doing it sometimes still.
Let me say that she always only did it when really sleepy. And when hurt. She never really did it when in trouble or anything. Just if she got hurt, or was sleepy. And since she was 4, she cut it to just doing it at night.
I sucked my thumb until the day I started Kindergarten. And I was a total rebel. I remember my parents trying to get me to stop and I didn't just because I could. My husband and I talked about it and my daughter has shown that same attitude, so we decided early on to let this run it's course on it's own- unless a problem is presented. And she has been doing it less and less over the years. She will stop when she is ready. We have kept watch with the dentist for overbite issues, but so far so good. I do have an overbite, but am lucky that it is not very bad nor really that noticeable. |

I didn't want my son to take a pacifier but he was 4 weeks early and had a hard time feeding. Despite what I wanted everyone told me I should try a pacifier. I guess he just needed a little practice... eventually he was able to master eating and using a pacifier. We took the pacifier away during the day when he was 8 months old and it was completely gone when he turned a year. It was easy to get rid of it once he didn't see it anymore he just forgot about it. |

I pushed the paci in hopes that neither of my girls would be finger suckers. A paci can be thrown away but fingers can't be cut off! I sucked my fingers and it was very difficult for my mom to get me to stop. I didn't want that with my kids.
My 2.5 chewed through her paci right around her 2nd bday (at that point she was only allowed to have it in bed) and that was that. She threw it away and never asked for it again. |

my daughter only took a pacifier for about 3 months then gave it up . my son on the other hand had it for longer he used it until he was about 15 months then gave it up. i had no problem using it. it helped him soothe himself. he used to want it all the time but around ten months we used only when he really needed it such as when he was extremely cranky or at nap and bed time. he was having a hard time with the teething and pacifier seemed to help... |

My son had a pacy till he was 2. It was great for him to sooth himself in the middle of the night or when he was tired. At about 9- 10 months I really limited it to bed time. At 2 years he lost the last one behind his bed and was done. He still makes sucking noises when he sleeps sometimes. I think packed can be good as a baby, but over 2 should defiantly be gone. There is no reason why a 5 year old needs a pacy. Rediculous! |

My son took the Pacifier for the first 5mos, after that he switched to his thumb. When he gets tired he sucks his thumb and runs his fingers through his hair, or touches his ear. |
